(Ok first of all, I want to start off by saying that she has been to the vet many times and still isn't better.)

I rescued a Bengal cat from a breeder and she is sick. She coughs and sneezes and always has snot dripping from her nose. My vet has tried at least 4 different antibiotics on her and she sometimes seems like she's getting better, then gets worse again especially when the weather starts turning cold. I don't know what else to do for her, she's now an only cat, so I don't have to worry about her making anyone else sick. She's about a year and a half old.

Here is what I know about her history. She is origionly from Flordia and was brought here after the hurricane last year. The lady's house had been completely destroyed and she was found with 2 other Bengals, both of them also sneeze and cough. She was a kitten at the time. THe breeder I got her from has tested her for everything including feline Leukemia and FIV and she is negitive for both. Has anyone in Flordia experianced anything like this? My vet has tried everything for her, but nothing works. I took her thinking it might be allergies or something in the air since the lady I got her from also breeds Huskies and has 7 other Bengals in the house, bit she still isn't better. Whatever it is, does not spead form cat to cat because the non flordia cats are all healthy. Please help!

I've tried a couple vets. Same results. I don't think she's allergic to me because she has improved since living with me and I don't wear much purfume. It seems weather related somehow because she improves in the summer when it is warm, but as soon as the weather changes she's worse. I'm posting this hoping someone in Flordia sees it. If I had the money, I would take her to a vet there, but I'm in Indiana and can't afford to drive to a vet in Flordia.

I have a 14 year old cat who also has very similar symptoms. She sneezes a lot and typically has green snot on her nose. Likewise she does not pass this condition to our other two cats. Our vet suggested it might be herpes in her nose and told us to give her Lysine twice a day. Lysine is an amino acid/vitamin supplement you can buy just about anywhere (GNC, drug stores, grocery stores, Wal-Mart/K-Mart). We were told to crush 250mg and mix it in her food. Her symptoms do vary with the seasons, sometimes she barely sneezes at all, and she never acts sick.

Being from hurricane territory I would guess it's also possible she has mold in her system? I've never heard of it happening to animals, but I do know someone who got mold in his system from helping with the cleanup in New Orleans -- so I wouldn't say it's impossible.

Either way good luck! You might want to try another vet -- the veterinary clinic we use has like 10 vets. The lady who told us about Lysine was the first one to have an answer for us. The other vets just told us some cats have allergies and would give us antibiotics.

Very well query. As a former proprietor of many cats (now not all at one time, of path), I am presently a puppy proprietor. But whenever you've gotten an external 'barn' cat that won't were vacinated, there may be certainly no method to inform what this cat would have. Yes, it might be very contagious, certainly if this cat ever acquired bit through a mouse and it has on no account had any of it is pictures (i.e. rabies, tom cat leukemia, and so forth). You sound very compassionate however you're really potentially posing a chance to your self and obviously on your cat, although it has had all of it is vaccines. Cats get unwell like folks, too, so that you ought to be very cautious round them and be certain you maintain your arms and garments blank as a way to now not go whatever on on your cat, and even worse, potentially the flu or whatever you maybe capable to agreement. Best of success on your buddy's cat. She rather does now not have got to allow this run it is path or she won't have a barn cat for much longer. She demands to take that cat, placed it in a cage, and take it to the Vet to have it tested and blood paintings drawn.

If the vet can not find anything wrong with her, then maybe she is allergic to something in your house - or even something like the perfume or soap you use. It's difficult to suggest what to do, but perhaps you could try putting her in a room with a minimum of furniture, cushions, etc., and see if that reduces her symptoms. Try also to handling her when you are not wearing perfume.

I wish I could think of something more useful to say because you are lucky to have such a splendid cat as a Bengal, and your enjoyment of her would be enhanced if she could be cured of her problem. I hope you find an answer.

PS I agree with the person who suggests you should consult another vet - a second opinion would be worth obtaining.

yes. my cat gets sick with the same exact symptoms every time the seasons change. our vet gave my cat amoxacillon and a shot of something. not sure what though. i think it was penicillin. i also give my cat like 1/2 a table spoon of childerens benedril no more than twice a day. you can give your cat less since she is younger. my cat has gotten this " kitty flu " as my vet calls it at least 4 times a year since we have had him. he almost died once but he some how got better. well i hope your cat gets better soon. and i hope i helped you out some.

A second opinion is a good idea here. I had a snake that would not eat. 7 months went by. had gone to 2 different vets and I paid through the nose on X-rays, different lab tests, injections and forced feedings to keep him alive. The last one I took him to only charged me an office visit and told me to change his food. All his life I have fed him rats. so I got him 5 mice and he ate every one of them in 1 night. Haven't had any trouble sense. The doctor said its a well known problem with ball pythons and is surprised the other doctors didn't think of it. so another doctor may find something another wont.

My cat gets sick like that once a year or so. I always think she won't pull through because she gets SO congested, but after a couple of months she pulls through. She's an old lady of a cat (16 years!) but she manages to make it through everytime (with no meds). Just keep giving her love and support. (and by golly, don't fuss at her when she sneezes snot on you!)

PS. Kudos to you for adopting!

If it is possible, have the vet check her for allergies. Or advise you on what allergy meds you could try to see if there is any change/improvement in her symptoms.
