Muslims not only think they are right, but they also think that everyone else is wrong.
Religion is a matter of faith. So Muslims are entitled to their beliefs. The problem is that they forget that others are too entitled to their belief likewise.
Religion is supposed to build brotherhood/community feeling. But religion gets taken over by people who want to feel the power over others.
It is like there being a big powerful nation that has no fear from outside. Then there is one President or King of that country. Now, there are more people who want to be Presidents too. They know that one country can have only one President or King. Then they decide to tell the public that a part of that country is different from the rest of it. And that they need to be separate (so that they can head it. Of course, they do not tell them about their hidden agenda.) They divide the nation into two, and three and so on. This happens in religion too.
If two children, who play together, want to be friends they start telling each other, " My shoes are black. Yours are black too. My hair are brown. Yours are brown too." And they become friends.
When they say, " Look my shoes are black, yours are not black. My hair are brown, yours are not brown.", The do not become friends.
Same happens in religion. If we make a list of just the simillarities between my religion and yours, we will be the best friends. Once we start making a list of all the differences, like those kids, we will not be friends.

Religion is based on emotional arguments. This is true for Christianity, Islam, and all other god beliefs. It is very effective because human have been emotional animals far longer than reasoning ones. Humans have a lot of insecurities, and religion plays to those insecurities mostly with a carrot and stick tactic. On one hand, they promise rewards like "72 virgins if you're martyred" and threats like those about Allah's wrath.
Also, people are indoctrinated into their religions usually at an early age, or they at least grow up in a religious culture. So, those emotional tugs are all the stronger for them. They are more easily accepted.
They keep their religion together by forming tight emotional bonds between the followers and by amplifying enmity towards those outside the group. In any group, there is a greater compassion for those in the group and enmity for those outside of it. However, religion plays on that fact and makes it extreme by, for example, telling the followers that their eternal happiness is threatened by even listening to those outside the religion.
Many religions say that their tenets say to love thine enemies (meaning those outside the religion), though that usually extends only to the point they are sure their enemies can't be converted. After that, it changes to "don't be unequally yoked" and "don't throw pearls before swine". In Islam, they promote tolerance towards other religions, as long they behave and allow Islamic rule.

Why do Christians think they are right?
Why do Islams think they are right?
Why do Jehovah's think they are right?
It's a matter of majorities ganging up and gaining confidence from each other that they are doing the right thing.
You don't see Pagans going around telling people that they are right do you? Not only is it because we are a minority group and still emerging from the shadows of society, but also because it's in our code of ethics that we should not push our bellliefs on others, and that we should respect others beliefs.
I don't know any other religion that has that in their scriptures??

>>"Nearly all religions claim they are the only true religion. "<<
firstly I do recognize your not saying all do, but I'm just... providing an example.
Judaism does *NOT* claim to be the "one true way" or anything like that.
an answer to the actual question, in short... for the same reason christians think they are exclusively correct, or a country or other group thinks they are "the best"

There are right and wrong beliefs in this world, and those who belong to wrong religions think they are right. Why? They lack the knowledge and wisdom that comes from knowing and understanding about the Trinity, love, the world, and eternal life.

The same reason everyone thinks they're right, because they were raised with a set of beliefs and they base their decisions on those beliefs. It is how we define right and wrong.
Sorry about losing the bet.

you will never get an answer because Muslims follow certain laws that have been asked to follow by the supreme creator, and not by a simple human being like yourself or myself, our minds and thoughts are limited to a certain degree but not the Creator.
so like i said you will not get an answer

Why does any religion think they are right? Christians are awful in this respect.
Any religion can be right-----if it right for that particular person.
I like my Judaism-it is right for me and my community. But, we do not feel it is for everyone, and each must follow his own way.
