I am a Buddhist. I firmly believe there is a kernal of truth in all faiths, but I have a question on one of the beliefs of Islam. As a Buddhist, what will happen to me at the Judgement? I believe, unlike many of my Buddhist brethern, that there must be a God, but in what form, I don't know.
Since I am not a person of the book, what fate will I have in the eyes of Allah, the Compassionate?

Keep in mind that Buddhism is not a religion, but is simply a philosophy. It is a path to end suffering of all sentient beings. No where does Buddhism say that a practicioner cannot follow the god of a religion. I do not see following the rules of a God of a reigion while practicing the Dharma as incompatible.

Islam is a religion that requires its believers to worship the One and Only Allah. You can read almost anywhere in the Qur'an that the greatest sin is to associate Allah with partners (even Muslims can do this e.g. black magic, but of course they are not considered as good Muslims). I strongly believe that Allah didn't put this in the Qur'an to put fear in people's hearts or to make people worship him. As a Muslim I believe Allah is Most Sufficient, He doesn't NEED people to worship him.

The Qur'an was sent as a guide for mankind. Therefore when Allah tells us to worship Him and to follow the Qur'an, we are the ones who will benefit from it.. not Him.

Your fate lies in your hands, Allah has given man the gift of free will to live life the way he chooses. I also believe Allah is Most Merciful & as you said, the Compassionate... so just have faith in all the good things that you do in this life :) Heaven is not guaranteed for anyone, on Judgement Day Allah will balance out all your good deeds to your bad deeds, an according to the Qur'an, even an atom's size will make a difference!

Don't you hate these ridiculous and mean answers?

You ask this of Muslims-what about Jews and Christians? They believe in a judgment day. However, I believe this, as a Jew. I do not believe in worrying-or even thinking about it-I live as good of a life as I can. We make our own heaven or hell on this earth in the way we accept our lives. G-d will take care of the rest.

If you are saying that you are a so-called "infidel" in the eyes of Muslims, then hoo boy, are you in big trouble! You had better repent and turn to Islam mate or you are horsemeat. Of course you could always argue that Islam and its ridiculous decrees dont meam squat. But then you might stir up a "Popestorm" (yep, I invented the word - you read it here first!)

may peace be upon you
The only unforgivable sin in islam is associating others with Allah, you have to believe in his Oneness, if you pray, you pray to God and God only, if you ask for something that is beyond your control, ask God and God only, do not think ppl of the book will have it easy either, it is also important to believe that Muhammad(pbuh) was His messenger, and to believe He sent down His conclusion in Islam, since I am not the one who is going to judge on that Day, Allah knows best
