Ok he is a 7 yr old neutered male cat. He wedged himself out of a screen yesterday. He is a 100% indoor cat. I am trying to bait him with his favorite wet food (ussually just a treat). I have called and left my name with the area humane society. Any other ideas?

Check with animal control everyday...don't just call go by. Also he is probably scared stiff and hiding close by and will not come when called so you need to walk the neighborhood and go into each neighbors yard (ask permission first) and look in every nook and crany for your cat to be hiding.
If you find him he may be too scared to come out and you will need to set a humane trap to catch him. He will only come out when he feels it is safe (when no one is around and it is quiet).
That is usually very early in the morning or late at night.
Here are a couple of links to help you:
http://www.petsonthenet.co.nz/checklist.htm
http://www.sonic.net/~pauline/search.html
Most people don't differentiate between searching for a dog and
searching for a cat, which is a huge mistake, because they are like
apples and oranges. Cats are territorial, so when an indoor cat
escapes outside, they feel displaced into unfamiliar territory. A
displaced cat (and also an injured or sick cat) will hide and they
will be silent. So walking around and calling the cat's name doesn't
work.
What that cat does is to look for the first place where she can hide,
and she will stay there. We've had people who have recovered their
cats six weeks later, and the cat was two houses down, living under
the neighbor's house or under their deck.
We've actually recovered lots of cats by treating them like ferals
and setting a humane trap. These cats will sit there and watch and
even listen to their person calling, but they will usually not
respond.
Eventually, some of them will reach a threshold point between the
seventh and tenth day where they finally do meow or they go into the
humane trap, but many of them, especially the ones with skittish
temperaments, just continue to hide.

Terrific answer by kathyk214 - he probably is close by - look in & around everything near your house, drain pipes, decks, etc. while pretending you're not really looking for him just doing something else - they know. Also don't forget to look up if you have any trees. Try sitting outside for awhile being as still as possible and look for other animals (i.e. birds, squirrels, other cats) to give you a clue as well - I've found it helpful in the past.
My only other suggestion is to try the Whiskas Temptations treats - every cat myself & my friends have tried with this have gone crazy for the stuff. Since they're small leave a number around in selected locations and with patience try to monitor their disappearance-we've had to do that with a new cat and fortunately the treats don't seem to appeal to birds or squirrels.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Tara C,
I own several cat's and I'll be the first to tell you, they are very tough and they will servive beyond your comprehension. So I think he's probably okay. The best thing I can think of is to put up bulletins around the neighborhood (with picture, hopefully). Good luck.

You can put up flyers in the area and an ad in the lost and found in your local paper but I would say he will come home when he is hungry.

post up flyers everywhere and if you have to go door to door, because some one might have found the cat and kept it because they didn't know who it belonged to.........So all I can tell you know is to hope and pray (and go to the animal shelter everyday) that your cat will come home.....I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you find him soon =)

Good luck, Mine goes out for hours. She always returns however. Sometimes she visits our neighbors if we leave her out.
But I love her and I hope she knows that.
