We have a lovely golden retriever, absolutely beautiful with an excellent temprement, loves everything! She even plays with out pet rabbit!

We are now looking for another puppy to keep her company.
We were thinking a border collie?

This dog needs to be an outdoor dog too as most of her time will be spent outdoors.

What do you all think?

A border collie should get along with your retriever fine. You could also always go with another golden retriever or pretty much any breed of lab, they've all got great temperaments and should get along with each other great. Good luck!

Dont get a border collie. They are way too hyper for your lovely goldie. Goldies tend to be very sensitive dogs and yours may be unsettled with a collie. Get a labrador or another goldie. 2 dogs of the same breed are more likely to settle with each other as they have the same temperaments etc.

We;ve always had golden retrievers and they always mix with pretty much any other breed. Depends really on the character of the dog in question. the retriever i have now is quite a quiet, subdued dog so doesn't really get on with hyper or too active dogs.

Some border collies can be very hyper. Another retriever might be a thought or a husky. Good Luck

i think you should get another golden retriever. theyre the best breed of dog everrrr. theyre so loving and smart and you will already know what goldens are like. they will get along better because theyre the same breed. collies are hyper and you will need to give them a lot of attention, so your golden might be jealous... and it will also be easier for you to train it... =]

borders do well outside, but they still need plenty of mental stimulation..and they are not laid back like a goldie..i think a lab wuld be a better otion as they are more similar in temperament..you could also try a curly coated retreiver,, chespeake bay retreiver...anything else int he retreiver lines...you could also try a spaniel, butit hard to keep their noses off the ground..but very bright. It sounds to me like any dog would suit yours..maybe you should think what best suits your lifestyle..as a puppy is not best to leave outside all the time..

I agree that a collie would be too hyper for your retriever. They are nutters and require a lot of attention. Your retriever will wonder what they did to deserve it!
