Is it just too far over illegal immigrants heads to understand that the citizens?

Of The United States of AMERICA are called "Americans" and that the people from the "AMERCAS" are not 'automatic' citizens of the USA? They may be called "American", but they are not "American" citizens of the "United States "OF" AMERICA". They seem to think they can claim entitlement in the USA by being Americans of the "Americas".

People and countries WORLDWIDE refer to the people of the USA as "AMERICAN", certainly not "United Statesians" (!) as I have seen some people try to call us. If you don't like referring to the citizens of the USA as "Americans" just don't talk about us. Stay away from the USA. We have enough stupid illegal immigrants, we could do with a lot less ignorant people from other countries.

Since ours is the the only country of the Americas to use "America" in the name we can identify ourselves as Americans. It has been accepted for nearly 200 years that an American is from the USA. Canadians are from Canada, Mexicans are from Mexico, Ecuadorans are from Ecuador, Colombians are from Colombia.

Why is it only illegals try to break this time honored tradition?

In a way you are right but.. We have to understand that the name of our country is "The United States of America" and this is the reason why we are called Americans. The name of Mexico is " The United States of Mexico" and that's the reason why they are called Mexicans, The problem is that when we write or say the name of our country we just say the United States, we are lazy in saying the whole name and the same with Mexico. When the USSR existed it had the same problem, because the name was so long and when we said Russia everybody knew who we were talking about. And about the illegal aliens we have to understand that 99% of them don't have an education and maybe this is the reason why they think like this. American is used in Latin America today for something from the America's North, South and Central. For a long time before the 1900's to describee some one or some thing from America's or the New world. .US citizens and some Europeans use the word to describ some one or thing from the USA because it is shorter word.

It goes beyond that to the "understood" or "familiar" meaning. When people around the world talk about Americans...they don't mean Brazil or Peru or Mexico or Canada...they mean the United States.

I have watched the illegals, the illegal lovers and the liberals take issue with the damn dumbest things...

Last I checked, we live in North AMERICA, which includes at least three countries, and is just above South AMERICA, which has many more.

Our nation, it may surprise you, is not called "America," but rather the United States OF America. "Of" meaning "belonging to."

Addendum to respond to your little tirade:

You may believe the people from the U.S. are the only ones who call themselves "Americans," but believing it doesn't make it so. People from Mexico, Columbia, Guatemala, and a host of other nations refer to themselves as "Americans" too.

Plus, any idiot with a credit card and half a brain can post a web page, so saying that you got a lot of hits on your Google search (in English, no doubt) proves absolutely nothing more than the simple fact that one of the many nations where people call themselves American is the U.S.

American means a native of North or South America.
US citizen is the right word instead of Americans referring to those living in USA.
