Hi you would need a transformer, capacitors, diodes and a DC to AC converter :)

It would be a lot easier if you start by buying an (second hands from care graveyard) ignition coil for a car and just add some diodes and capacitors to create a voltage multiplier http://www.kronjaeger.com/hv/hv/src/mul/

This way you can get started pretty quick and cheap.
You can find the diodes in old microwave ovens (be very careful not to touch the 2000V capacitor as it can kill you!!!) or take them from an old ionizer (they have a ready to use voltage multiplier) you can take the capacitors also from the ionizer. The capacitors from an microwave oven will explode because they can not handle the high frequency produced by the ignition coil.

Please read this safety information first!!!!

I hope this helped? ;)
