A terrible fire broke out, endangering lives.

A fire fighting team arrived with their equipment.

Should they:
1. pray for divine intervention until God shows up and extinguishes the flames?

2. break out the equipment, hoses, and ladders and fight the blaze themselves?

How often do you witness injustice, cruelty, or disaster and act to ease the suffering, and how often do you do nothing more than pray for divine intervention and wait for God to show up?

GOD helps those who help themselves. it is fine to Pray and Petition GOD for assistance yet man was given a certain amount of intelligence to use. Man not only needs to rely on GOD but also his own GOD given talents to solve problems.

Nothing fails like prayer. One man with a shovel can do more good than a million people praying. I think that prayer is something to make people feel like they're doing something, without actually having to do anything. It's part of religious moral laziness.

this reminds me of a joke which has a ring of truth to it.

A woman prays to god to win the lottery. She watches the drawing but she doesn't win. The next day she prays to god to win the lottery and when she watches the drawing she doesn't win.

This goes on for a week until the woman gets fed up with god and screams, "I've prayed to you all week about winning the lottery and you haven't answered my prayers. Have I done something wrong?"

The heavens opened up and God answered, "You have to meet me halfway and BUY a lottery ticket!"

The moral of all this is that we need to met god halfway, he cannot help us without us first trying to help ourselves.

Good question. As Christians we should be more Christ like and do what we think Christ would have us do. Jump in and put out the fire, then thank God for our ability to help someone in need.

i would automatically act
i do believe in God but do not feel he interferes with our actions in this life
if i pray for anything in those circumstances ... it would be that if there has to be suffering ... to let that suffering be eased
