Pudding: Early writers on cookery class puddings and dumplings together. The earliest puddings were boiled in a bag or cloth. The baked or chilled puddings evolved even later. Puddings are classed as those served with meat, such as Yorkshire pudding (batter baked under the meat or in the drippings), or which form the meat course, such as Sussex pudding (a large dumpling filled with meat instead of fruit), and those served as a sweet or dessert.

Pie: A sweet or savory dish made with a CRUST and FILLING(such as fruit, pudding, meat or vegetable). Pies can have bottom crusts only, or top and bottom crusts or, as with deep-dish pies, only a top crust. Sweet pies are generally served as dessert and savory pies as the main course or appetizer.

All this pie and pudding talk is making me hungry!

One has a crust and can be made with meat, chicken etc., and can be served as a main dish, while the other doesn't have a crust and is usually sweet and left for desert.

Puddings dont have a crust...pies do.
