Why do people still feel compelled to smell something, even if it quite obviously is going to be disgusting?

there are some superb recipes that you can make with 3 week old milk and sometimes it doesn't even taste bad:

take the asian drink lassi for example which is gone off milk mixed in with mango, orange, apple etc

there are some vegetable recipes that use gone off milk,

one can make porridge with it

africans often make a doughy starch which can be used with water or gone off milk...

but yeah, if its something like smelling the skidmarks on your old panties, or checking if your socks stink after wearing them for 2 weeks, then yeah I get u

We've been doing this since we crawled out of the sea. The sense of smell is so ingrained into us we can't help ourselves. Watch a dog or a cat!
