Not only can you run indoors, but use the deep snow for your advantage by runnig through it to build up endurance and your leg muscles. Careful though do not over do it.

I am a winter runner too... here are some suggestions:

1) Use a treadmill on the coldest days or when it is snowing. I find that fresh snowfall alters my stride and I wind up hurting when I am done.

2) Take advantage of days where the weather is nicer. I live in Chicago and there are some days that are just brutal. Use those days to put in the short / base mileage. Occasionally, we get a day in the 30's or even 40's... that's the day to go for a longer distance run.

3) Tough it out. There are people training in Alaska in the dead of winter preparing for marathons. With the proper equipment, you can easily get in your miles even on the coldest days. Running Times and Runner's World magazine often contain tips for winter running. Pick up a copy and see what they recommend as far as apparrel. Usually, shorts, t-shirt plus sweats and a heavy duty sweatshirt are good enough for me.

The bottom line is to be flexible in your training. Those marathon training schedules are usually pretty good, but most allow some flexibility.

Good luck.

No indoor tracks anywhere?
Running on a treadmill is very different from running on the street, and may not help anywhere near as much as you would hope.
