I have a 2 year old male yorkie and a 9 year old female sheltie. Needless to say the differences are astonding, but the yorkie just has no patience. Let it be with being the first out the door, to the first in the door, to be the first to get a treat, gulp it down and then annoy me until I am forced to give up another treat. Meanwhile my sheltie is at my feet still on her first. He is persistent and consistent, nudging and tapping me with the nose, he knows what he wants and he will get you to know what he wants also. He even eats on the run, what's up with that? But to say, sit, wait, like speaking another language. He is not as hyper as when he was younger, but damn, when will he slow down and can I help him?

"Patience" is a purely human concept, as dogs have no perception of time. Being young and a naturally high-strung breed of dog, the Yorkie will slow down over time, but probably not to the extent that you would like, (if you prefer calmer pets).

Your answer is in training the Yorkie in some basic obedience. Remember that consistency is the key, the reward comes on your terms, and poor behavior tolerated from a dog teaches him nothing but that you will tolerate it. He will probably always be hyper, but you can calm him some by simply teaching him your expectations clearly and consistently.

Yorkies are very impatient by nature and may never calm down he feels like the sheltie is competion for your attention. They are just like that and he needs to have alot of attention. Sorry to say he may never calm down the way you want him too. Just try different things and maybe will work. Good Luck and I hope this helps.
