Traditional Mexican food is not fattening. They use a lot of fruits and vegetables in their cooking. I saw a Mexican lady on TV talking about how to cook real Mexican food and how healthy it's supposed to be.
However, the fast food version of Mexican food is unhealthy and fattening.

Mexican food IS healthy - just stop eating at Taco Bell! Honestly, if you want the healthiest item, STAY AWAY from RICE (it's a carb and filler) and REFRIED BEANS (refined beans lose they're good-for-you-ness and refried means LARD)!!! No enchiladas or chile relleno for you, but you can try fajitas, carne asada, or even fish. If it's a truly authentic mexican restaurant, they'll have several fish dishes. Enjoy - Mexican food is the best!

This is like asking "Are cakes chocolate?"
Some of the American versions are... some lowfat versions are not... they can certainly be prepared with vegetable oils instead of lard and lowfat cheeses instead of full fat and salsas instead of other sauces, lowfat sour cream can be used... and while guacamole is primarily avocado, and avocados have a lot of calories, they also contain oils that lower your cholesterol, so it's a wash.
Authentic Mexican food is not fattening (except perhaps for the use of lard when making tortillas and refried beans.) The diet consists of lots of vegetables, tons of tomatoes and onions and peppers, meat, beans, tortillas (flour and corn) and lots of citrus fruits and some eggs. Some of the soft cheeses can be high in fat content, so should be used sparingly (they have crema cheeses that are similar to our sour cream)
If you want to eat at Taco Bell, consider the spicy soft chicken tacos, beans and cheese, or have anything else prepared "fresca" style I think they call it there... using salsa instead of cheese sauce etc to keep the fat/calorie content down.
Avoid Chipotle because their burritoes are the size of a football and consider Baja Fresh because they tell you the calorie and fat content of each of their menu selections and have a whole healthier section from which to choose, whether you're limiting calories, fat or carbs.

Portion size is the key! But if you are making your own Mex meals then they don't have to be fattening (for example don't use lard (a.k.a. manteca) in your tortillas or sauces. Use unsaturated oils instead (sunflower, canola, olive) in smaller quantities. Also don't overdo the sour cream and guac! I make an awesome chilli but put lettuce on top with a small sprinkle of cheese (parmesan is nice) instead.

Traditional Mexican food really isn't fattening, rice, corn, beans...
But the crap you get at your local "Mexican Restaurant" smothered in cheeses, sour cream and deep fried certainly is!

maybe no maybe yes.... i don't know.. maybe it depends on the nutrients that you can get on mexican foods... but as far as i know all foods can make you fat if you don't eat proper diet....
