sweetshim- A slight correction - they do not criticize any Abrahamic religion as they are considered to be of the "Book". But they do not have any problems criticizing any other religion. I am speaking from personal experience.

salim- there is no problem if you are offended, that's human nature. However the problem comes when muslims start being violent towards those who are not connected with the person who criticized.

syeda- I & anyone else would have absolutely no problems if muslims just get "offended". However the problem comes when they start reacting violently & innocents get killed.

ilga6- I am not American but I am sure that if, in America you wear a shirt with "I hate America" on it nothing much will happen to you. You can respect Islam & the prophet as much as you please but surely you can allow someone else to have a different opinion of Islam and express it also. If someone expresses a different opinion then why do muslims have to start targeting innocents?. People of no other religion behave in such a manner.
Then how can Muslims call themselves the religion of peace? Religion is what religion does.

Chani - Knowing about Islam is not relevent to this question. What we are talking about is the behavior of muslims to a certain situation.
Please note that not even one muslim on YA has expressed his sorrow at the killing of innocents in this connection.

Muslims have lived for centuries in controlled societies which glorify Islam and Mohammad. Any criticism was punished brutally or never reached them.

Thank you for this question.
Muslims love their religion and the prophet Muhammad (saw) and the other prophets (as) and the religions revealed to them.
In my life I have had literally thousands of discussions about religion with people of all walks of life and many many religions. I have never found anyone who does not get upset when their religion is criticized. This includes atheists, agnostics, scientists, whatever.
With the spotlight on Islam at the moment, I, for one, am truly thankful to Allah (swt) for this scruitinization. If the critisizm is brutal or insulting then my religion teaches me to leave the conversation, To say "Salam" (peace) and walk away.
But people are people and not all are able to do that. So I have seen the "worked up" reaction from Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Bahai, Inuit, Native Americans of many Tribes, Shinto, you name it.
And Allah knows best,
Peace and Blessings,
Salim

if you would look at things objectively.... most Muslims who respond are upset but not worked up or over the top..... many insults come from understandings..... as Muslims we cannot just let people to continue to believe lies.
if you were russian and you were proud of your culture and someone told you that all russian people were horrible or that russia was a terrible place.... if you were so moved you would talk about statistics or crime rates or speak about things that were enjoyable..... and there would be absolutely nothing wrong with that
why should Muslims not be able to defend Islam?

They are like many religions, They are trying to convert every one to their Ideals, There is so many religions today & at the beginning of Grace age, we had only One Faith, Can you see how far mankind/womankind have drifted away from God. The word religion can mean anything, Someone's religion could be their car, But Salvation is Truth, there is a difference between religion & salvation.

It's called "RESPECT".
I highly respect my religion AND my prophet, and I do get offended when I see a question aimed just to provoke and anger a Muslim, but I still don't let it get over me and I answer in the most reasonable calm way.
It is not insecurity as some say, I am as shocked when I see jokes being made about "Jesus Christ" or "Moses" "Saint Mary" or any other prophet, it just shocks me how some people who claim to be "Christians" have almost little to no respect towards their religion or their prophet??
I seen hundreds and hundreds of sites/posters/jokes made of "Jesus Christ" and I cringe every time and just shake my head in disbelief.
And the answer that guy who said about the cartoon, that guy took it in his own hand to draw something he "thought" was right, and no it is not called freedom of speech, its called racism and hate speech.
If I go around saying I hate Americans and I want them to do would that count as freedom of speech ? there is a fine line between freedom of speech and respect, and that guy just jumped over it by 10 miles.

And, why are you putting all Muslims into one group? You know absolutely nothing about Islam, and the uneducated and uninformed should not speak, lest they show their stupidity.

I do not like it either when others insult Christ or God so I can understand. I do however ignore these comments and attempt to make reparation for the offenses. I leave all judgment to He who knows best.

They are insecure.
Ever wonder why Jews didnt flip out about Iran's museum of art dedicated to the Holocaust, while the Mohammedans flipped out about a few cartoons a guy in Denmark drew?
