the problem goes this way..i went to laboratory to chech on my platelets and the result was 130 (it was done manually using unopette method and blood smear)so it is obviously below the normal value so i doubt about the result because i didn't have any fever and i am active.so, i went to another laboratory for second opinion, they get another sample again and the result is around 250 using automated machine..my question is, is it possible that there is a difference in platelet counting after 2 hours interval??how would they justify it?i will wait for your response regarding this matter..thank you

A platelet count would not change that much in such a short period of time without some noticeable factor effecting it. Generally platelet counts can go down a great deal in a short period of time when a person is receiving treatment for dehydration (but the count would be above normal). It can also go up in a short period of time in patients who have received a transfusion of platelets. I don't know what kind of lab is using manual method to do platelet counts, but I suggest you not go there anymore.

it depends on the way the first lab handeled your sample.
Sometimes the platelets adher to each other & the results will be less free platelet visible on blood smear.

it frequently changes but the margin cannot go more than 15 % unless you have a very severe infection
its sensible to get it done at a reputed test lab with automatic machines
