Well, put it this way, as soon as it's picked, it's dead, so you should eat it as soon as you can. Buy small quantities rather than a huge load at a time. But most fruit should stay good for a couple of days at least, and apples for instance can keep for much longer, like potatoes, if you store them in a cool dark place. I would never eat anything that's more than a week old though.

londoner is right except that if you refrigerate some fruit it will last longer and keep its goodness. if you can it, you will lose some of its natural goodness but you can keep it up to a year. all fruit degrades at different speeds, and the amount of coolness in the room will help with keeping it freshest. you can store apples in a cool dark cellar and they will stay good for a very long time, the same as with carrots and potatoes and onions.

Well, when i used to stay in Nigeria we eat fresh fruit from the tree and throw the seed back into the bush to grow back again but we dint get fresh fruit in London because it take too long to get to the people and some is rotten when you buy them so people living in western world they eat what they get so to me i don't see any fruit here that got it natural taste or goodness and for you to enjoy the goodness of a fruit you need to eat them under the tree and throw the seed back into the bush to grow again

It really depends on the fruit. Apples can last quite long for example. But no fruit should last as long as ours does. Buy organic and see how quickly things go off its scary how long our food lasts.
