My first question is 'is your puppy vaccinated and how long has it been having diarrhoea?' The main danger with puppies with this problem is the speed in which they can become seriously dehydated. If this is a simple bug then starving the dog of food might help but the dog need rehydrating. I feel that you should, both as a precaution and to be 100% there is no underlying problem, take a visit your vets or ring the surgery for advise at the very least. Illness in puppies can be fatal.

It depends on how long you've had the puppy--sometimes diarrhoea is caused by the shock of the move and it will clear up in a day or two. Another contributing factor is the change in food. If you can, feed it the same food that it had at the breeders. Most reputable breeders will actually give you some food to take with to tide you over. Then if you want to change the puppy's food, do it gradually, intermixing the two types with every increasing portions of the new food.
If that doesn't work, try taking him back to a simple diet of one protein, one carbohydrate--it means cooking, but chicken or turkey mince mixed with a bit of cooked brown rice is a good alternative. However, your veterinary will probably have a ready-made food, either dry or wet, that has this composition.
Check and see if the puppy is up to date with it's worming treatment--that's a common cause of bad tummy. Also, watch his/her behaviour---when does the puppy suffer from the trots? Is it right after a romp or does he/she poop when you are out? Anxiety and excitement and excessive exercise make for active bowels in any dog.
If he's still pooping after all that, then it's time for a trip to the vet's. Don't panic, however. It may be something as simple as a food allergy--he/she may be intolerant to wheat or some other ingredient that is standard in even the best dog food.

The usual way is to starve the dog for 24 hours and then feed a bland food - like chicken and rice BUT with a young puppy it is really important that you don't let this go on more than a couple of days.
Puppies, like babies, can de-hydrate very quickly and become very ill.
Whether you feed dry or canned food is immaterial as long as the food is specifically for puppies.
Diarrhoea is not unusual in pups - some get it for a few days due to the stress of leaving the breeder and moving to their new home.
Pups eat loads of rubbish which can upset them but they generally recover quickly.
Persistent diarrhoea should be sorted out quickly - the dog might have an infection - take him to the Vets if it has already lasted more than a couple of days.

Have you changed the puppy's diet from what he is used to eating? If so that could cause diarrhoea also. You should gradually change over food from what it's been fed and mix in the type you are feeding now.
Also, have a Vet check it out for parasites,or other intestinal problems, if you find that isn't the problem you might try feeding it a bland diet ( boiled chicken or beef, such as hamburger and rice) , see if that helps clear it up. Also you can buy foods for somach upset from your Vet such as Hill's prescription diet I/D.
Keep an eye on how much diarrhoea the puppy is having because it can lead to dehydration.

Hey how exciting puppies can be a bit upset for the first week as their environment has changed etc find out was the person who bred him was feeding or put him on rice with a bit of chicken to settle his stomach or you can feed dry food just soften them a little as he might scoff because he is used to fighting for his food from his litter mates but if this does not work a quick trip to the vet is always good just to check that he does not have a tummy bug
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY TIMES WITH YOU NEW ADDITION TO THE FAMILY : )

each and every so often if a puppy is given a dewormer, the meds might want to reason it to remove the worms an afternoon after the wormer, yet no longer to the point of having the diarrhea non quit. This puppy sjould were wormed each and every 2 to three wks. because it develop into born.i'd recommend worming the puppy with a threat-free wormer said as Panacur, that is given through weight and three days in a row,and may want to correctly be received at any vet health middle.some breeders will allow you to understand they have dewormed the puppy even as they truly have not and the diarrhea takes position.this may also be brought about through replacing of the puppy nutrition, thats why you should continually replace their nutrition steadily.attempt giving the puppy some toddler pediolyte and remove its ingesting water ,enable it drink each and every of the pediolyte it needs,as this may quit the diarrhea and replace any electrolytes it has lost in the course of the diarrhea.also provide the puppy a dab of undeniable honey,or Karo syrup on its tongue to maintain its sugar element up,via the indisputable fact that's possibly low from the diarrhea. If the diarrhea would not examine up after the pediolyte, see your vet,as a comfortable puppy will bypass down quickly if this isn't stopped.

Firstly you should be feeding it whatever the breeder weaned it onto. Dont change its food, that will upset it. Also, if you have just got your puppy he may be unsettled and thats why he has the runs. Dont feed him anything for 24 hours, just loads of water. then gradually introduce him to very bland stuff like boiled chicken and rice and slowley mix his own food into it until he is back onto normal food. 24 hours fasting is the only way to get rid of the runs unless you want to take him to a vets, get and injection whichh will stop it pretty quick but will set you back approx £40.

your food is too rich for delecate tums. Try a puppy dry puppy food or simply feed small amounts of minced chicken or white fish. If the puppy is not drinking water get to the vets asap.
