I have two daughters ages 6 and 4.Everything is OK during day.I leave them at school and kindergarten, then go to work, then my 6-year-old comes at home alone. In the evening my neighbour takes the 4-year-old from kindergarten and when they cross the road,he leaves her go home. Then at 21:00 I come home and make a dinner. But my job is such, that I have to go sometimes at night and come back during next day. When I leave at nigh,I'm worrying for not telling "Goodbye" to my daughters(they sleep at the time) and leave them alone without telling them anything.Should I wake them up in the middle of the night to say "goodbye" or just leave them a note?

what worries me is that of all the things you say what really worries you is if you should say goodbye when you leave them alone in the middle of the night.
it's a dangerous world 4 small children either it's night or day and you leave them alone night and day because the time you said u r coming back from work is bedtime 4 children.if they miss u they miss u at day because they r sleeping at night.try 2 explain to them that if they dont see you at night it doesn't mean u abandoned them but u went to work.i dont think they will understand why you have to be working far from them even when everybody else is sleeping...these children r growing up alone and this is very sad.have u ever thought that it is just a matter of luck that they r still alive, not seriously injured, not lost, not raped?
i want to believe there is a serious reason 4 chosing to handle things this way u do but try to find a goood solution before it's too late 4 all of u.good luck

Im sorry but i dont really understand this question from what im reading is that you leave your children alone somtimes over night so you can work no 6 yr old should be walking home alone from school you need to sort out responsible child care or change your job to days so you are there all the time for your kids this is not right if you were found out you could have your children taken from you i can tell you really love your kids because you are working to support them, but this is not the way you need to stop this now !!!

u should be deprived of custody of your children. it is illegal to leave 6 and 4 years alone day or night. u either have to quit this job or get a baby sitter each time u leave for work and also your kids can't be left alone in evenings. i usually don't judge people, but im sorry u re a horrible parent. im wondering why noone of your neighbours has reported u to child care. probably it will be soon, i hope

well, i believe you are a good parent to your children..
i would say.. you should wake them up to say goodbye...
i guess this is the best choice compare to leaving a note.. once a while might be fine but not all the time..
anyway, you should reconsider about this job..
your children are still very young..
its not nice to be so busy at your work and not having any time for your children..
i would be very sad if my parents don't pick me up from school, traveling up and down everyday...
I'm sure they would love to spend more and more time with you.. They are only 4 and 6 years old...
It's too early to leave them alone at this age..
God bless you and your family..

Your children are too young to be left alone at any time of day, for any amount of time. You use military time in your post. If you are in the military, immediately speak to your supervisor about this situation. You are running a very real chance of being turned in to either military or local authorities, the results of which could range from criminal prosecution, an article 15 and or loss of rank to discharge to having your kids removed from your custody. This can not continue...it is simply too dangerous.

You really have to get your priorities straight. No job is worth the safety of your children. What if something happens during the night . A child gets sick or someone breaks into your home and molests them. WAKE UP!!!! Iknow your probably just trying to provide for your girls but there has to be another way.

You must be kidding!!! This is not a real question!!! No parent in their right mind would leave their 4 and 6 year old to fend for themselves let alone a neighbour and then post the question on Yahoo Answers....

You're a jerk for wasting people's time!!1

You have to get a babysitter whenever you have to leave them alone otherwise sooner or later somebody will report you .
Having your neighbor next door is not enough ,somebody have to
stay with the children.
are they alone after school too?If yes this is very wrong,i`m sorry but i can not understand you .
dinner at 9 pm is way to late.
they have school the next day the need there sleep.
you have to get daycare/babysitter before you leave them alone again, otherwise you will loose your girls .
I don`t think you want that you just have to do the right thing.
You are lucky that something happened until now.

find a babysitter.........a 4 and 6 yr old has no business staying alone at night. If an emergency ( fire...somebody breaking in etc ) they are not old enough to be responsible.... plus if anything would happen to them while you are at work and they are left alone you can be charged for child neglect then the children will be taken away.

Don't leave your kids home alone!!!!! They are way too young!! I do hope you don't leave them alone at night when you leave. If you do, shame on you. Don't wake them, it might scare them and then they may not get back to sleep. Do not ever leave young children completely alone. Could you live with an accident? Could you live without your kids? Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!
