Without both elements (the dust of the ground+breath of life), biblically, we wouldn't exist, no? That's what i meant here:

The answers to most questions in theology are "yes and no". I'd have to give that answer for this one. While part of who we are is encapsulated in the physical body (including the brain, which has great influence on our personalties...which some call the soul), the immaterial part of our selves is directly connected to the body.
When we die, the body dissolves and we go to a place where we are aware of things...the Bible says that Christians go to be with Christ and you know where the others go. Even though we go there as our spiritual selves, we are not complete.
One day will come when all people will be resurrected, some to eternal life in Heaven, and the others to eternal death (torment) in Hell. This, then, is physical punishment of sorts.

Some people make a separation that is more complex. they call us Body, mind and spirit (or soul). The Body is the stuff...the mind is your will...the spirit is that part about you which lives for eternity. But the Bible doesn't really make clear consistent distinctions in this area. Instead, we find that we are material and immaterial. When we die, we will exist in spirit form, somehow.
When we are resurrected, we will be complete again: body and soul, so to speak.

I think I understand the questions. You're trying to get your mind around this and maybe making it too complex. Either that, or your are trying to put forth your idea and it's not being accepted... which might be unacceptable to you. I've read some of the answers you received and some of them are exceptional. You might have to let this go. It's been answered. Red and blue make purple. Adam was created from the earth and God breathed life into him. If you read the Bible, as I think you have done, you will gain better understanding... though somehow I think you do understand and cannot let it go. Whatever the difficulty is, just ask it or let it go. I don't mean to upset you. I am trying to help.

This is clearly stated in Buddhism.

We are made of 4 elements of Solid, Heat, Liquid and Air where the Chiththa - that is the mind is Alien to the body - which uses the body made of above mentioned elements as a temporary house.

OK Rocky! Now I gotcha! I agree with you...we are all physical..created by God to live in this physical body. It is a temporary temple. And it is necessary for us to have this physical experience called life, in order to be considered worthy to enter the Kingdom of God,. Our lives are being tested as to what we do, with the knowledge we have.
We are a Soul, as well...Our very being makes us a soul, and God will resurrect the Soul. It is this Soul that God allows the Temple to reside in, as we have accepted His ways, and followed Christ.
You are right, in saying that without both elements, the spiritual and the physical, we couldn't exist.

no. "we" are a soul. which could be said to be a collection of "spirit" with a cohesive accumulation of knowlege, experiences, memories, ect.

and yes, who "we" are does exist without our physical form, but it doesn't exist in the form we know it, until after having been in a physical form.

I mean if you pour a mold with plaster, to be sculpted, is that the same as the same item would be after it was carved? or after it was painted and finished? of course not. its not a "sculpture" or "art" until its finished, or even part way finished, its just a blank, a generally shaped peice of hardened plaster. where the other is much more than that.

We seem to be an anomaly in this world---too bad we waste so much of our time pleasing the flesh...

Actually; we are a trichotomy, not a dichotomy. Body, soul & spirit.
