I have two wonderful dogs and they are my best friends.
One hates men she is terrified of them, she was a rescue dog.

I wonder if it is because that dogs were traditionally the companion of male hunters.
It has been said that the domestication of the dog helped in the survival of early man (oops! mankind). The dog's ability to assist in the hunt for food and to protect against predators meant that man moved a bit higher up the food chain!
Mind you, while the hunter was out with his dog, the women and children were probably having a great time playing with the puppies when they should have been picking berries and herbs.

Man or women the dogs is the best friend cause if U annoy your man he will dump u and if u annoy your girl/wife/lady she will give you a mouthful. But a dog even if u scold it or ill treat it it will still love u and come to U. Its a friend to children, to the blind, to the sick, to the police and got knows what all. I have till date never been without a dog in my life they are the noblest and most loyal animals created and Gods gift to mankind.

It is because they are faithful to their owners, fear nothing
and will defend their loved ones to their very death. How
many humans would go to this length, of absolute
dedication to another human? I would say, perhaps
very few. That is why they are man‘s best friend, in the
sense that man is used as an abbreviation for mankind.

It's just a general term for "mankind" and not meant to be taken literally as only men and not women.

Wonder who made up that saying? Just go to a third world country and you will know that saying is a gross lie when you see the packs of rabid stray dogs patrolling the dimly lit streets.

That saying was coined before anyone heard of political correctness. I daresay the saying will be outlawed or changed to humankinds best friend or something like that.

It doesn't say "a man's" or "men's". "man's" means "mankind's".
She doesn't hate men btw, dogs aren't that bad. They never commit a sin.

Because men are generally insecure and dogs pander to their ego. Men need to know that there is someone lower in the pack than them- dogs and earthworms are about all that fill that niche.
Most men don't like cats because cats are cleverer than they are. Although so is your average amoeba.
