It is nothing but our own good and bad deeds makes our life with miseries and hardships. This might have happened in the last life also. These are human mistakes for which God is helpless. Hence take the misery and hardship as a gift of God and pray for the unification of Soul with the The Great Master.

A lot depends on the person and what they consider misery and hardship. It is all where you stand. An important thing to remember is that sometimes the road you take in life is filled with bumps and unpleasantness but sometimes that is the road you need to take to get you to a better place.

usually some mixture of Karma, Lessons to be learned, and fighting the natural flow of things.
that is, if your "intended" path is to be unemployed for a certain time, and then circumstantially be at a place, and avaliability, due to being unemployed, that would get you a GREAT job, pushing too hard to get a job NOW could prevent you from getting that one you were meant to. but of course on the other hand sometimes circumstances are the other way. thus the whole part of fighting the flow. most people have the means to see which way the current is going, and to ride the waves and such.... but chose not to, but instead to try to force their own will on things.
