most new build houses have the cables installed by the builders . nearly all service providers that you call will get openreach a bt group company to install this line for you sorry mate but that is just how it is .also if you have internal cables that the builder has fitted in the house you will be charged £60 to have these connected up this is called test and commission if the electrician that fitted them is good you will be all right if not and there is a fault on them it could cost up to £70 per hour to fix this and find out whats wrong with them hope this helps .

Quite simply m8 no. As it is a new house you have to have the line put in and everything which is why it's so damn expensive. Personally I think it should be up to BT to install the line fee of charge as they make an enormous amount out of the rental and calls afterwards anyway.

I had the same thing. I went with NTL in the end because they installed a landline for free and had the line rental was the same as BT.

I think all the other companies use a BT line, but you could try some of the cable companies like Telewest.
They prob dont have cables laid though, it being a new house.

As the previous person suggested, check to see if you can get Telewest by entering your postcode from here: http://www.telewest.co.uk/websales/service.do?id=3

If not, then try NTL here: http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/telephonepackages

Hope you can get one or the other because I think BT have got a cheek asking you to pay them to put in their service, then charge you for using the telephone!
