last house we had (moved out 2 years ago) had Formica brand laminate floor in a laundry room, large kitchen and very large family room. We did not like it.

It echos. the dog's nails really clicked on it.

It is does not look like real wood at all.

It was easy to clean though, just need to be very careful about using a barely damp mop. One area had some water damage (from previous owners).

My suggestion is to use an engineered wood product, maybe even bamboo?

My entire condo is Mohawk "click" laminate installed 3 yrs ago and I HATE it. It chips too easy, it not finished properly and stains there like crazy, and it separates in many places. I complained to Home Depot where I bought it and they were so not interested in helping me out. I phoned Mohawk and after 1.5 yrs of phone calls I got a guy to come and inspect it. He ended up turning down my claim.

I am an interior decorator and I would never tell a client to put in laminate unless they want lots of problems. Real wood can easily be repaired if something happens. Laminate can not be repaired. That coloured putty they sell doesn't match in colour.

I am saving up to have it ripped out and replaced.

If you mean vinyl laminate, a good, thick type from a longstanding name brand is fine for kitchens , mudrooms or bathroom. Enusre it is installed properly with a heavy roller, rolling from the centre to the edges after any glue is applied underneath, within minutes of laying the floor. Otherwise you'll have creases and air-bubble "bumps".

I have laminate flooring in every room of my house except for the kitchen and bathroom (tile).. and I don't regret it, in fact, I love it. It's beautiful, easy to clean and maintian, it was easy to instal, and if a panel ever breaks or cracks, I can replace it with a new panel. I think it's lovely, and it was a cheap alternative to real hardwood.. that I would be afraid of having anything happen too because it would be hell to replace or fix.

Unless you're talking about the oldstyle Vinly Linoleum.. I don't have that.
