Relax! There's absolutely no risk whatever of you catching avian flu by eating cooked poultry.
The people who are at risk are those who come into physical contact with infected live birds. The worst-hit areas are south-east Asia and parts of Africa; many people in these areas are extremely poor and (awful to us as it sounds) often live alongside the birds which they keep, and have no way of telling if the birds are infected or not.

You can not contract bird flu through eating a chicken. Like any type of flu it is spread through contact with the living bug, so a cooked chicken wouldnt be a threat. Birds who have a virus of any kind wouldnt be aproved for human consumption anyway so there realy is no risk at all.
The only ones who need to be carefull are those working in close proximity to poultry or other birds in infected and even then the risk of infection is low.

I've never heard of the bird flu in New Zealand. Usually the domestic birds for commercial use are kept inside. The bird flu is spread by wild birds. You're probably very safe.

I don't think you'll get bird flu from wellcooked chicken.

not to worry... as long as the chicken is COOKED WELL (no raw chicken meat, no blood from meat) then your chicken is good enough to eat! :) i'm sure that your government in New Zealand is controlling the importation of chickens in your country. :)
