For a basketball player, I'd recommend a diet of about 50% carbohydrate, 30% protein and 20% (or less) of fat.

The carbohydrates will provide energy for the sport, while the protein will help you rebuild muscle tissue.

I am always a firm believer in a low fat diet that avoids refined sugars (high fructose syrup, table sugar, white bread, sodas etc) with a moderation of lean proteins. For me that has always provided me with the most energy for all the running I do. Basketball does take up a lot of calories, especially with all the running, so don't be afraid to hit the carbs.

You might find it helpful to pick up a copy or two of Men's Fitness magazine. They have a lot of healthy diets and work out plans for active people (or even muscle and fitness).

Good luck.
