.Oh the pomegranite! as a child our mum would give us half each and a pin, we would sit outside for hours eating them pip by pip
Now Im older and wiser, I cut them in half, and squeeze them over a bowl, pick out the pith and eat or use whats left in a salad,
A messy fruit but worth the hassle if used right

Pomegranates are messy -- but delicious!

First of all, make sure you're not wearing anything white or light-coloured -- they tend to squirt, and the juice will stain.

Using a very sharp knife, carefully slice through the outer rind around the whole circumference of the fruit. Carefully pull the halves apart. Then break each half in half and either pick the seeds out and eat them individually, or turn the piece inside out and bite them off the rinds. Don't eat the membranes holding the seeds together -- they're bitter.

Pomegranates always remind me of Christmas...

The correct way is to cut the fruit into four segments, scoop out the fruit from the inside, chew them until all of the flesh is gone and then spit out the seeds. This is very time consuming for not much food, so I prefer to just crunch the pips!

mmmm, pomegranate

Press the fruit in your hands before you cut into the skin. That will loosen the pips a bit, but pomegranates are inherently messy fruits. You could save yourself the hassle and buy pre-packaged, prepared seeds in some supermarkets.

Hi Bob,
It's along time since I ate one but I used a needle to pick out the seeds to eat .

I cut them into segments (usually 4) and suck out the flesh and leave the skin. Sometimes I swallow the pips but sometimes I spit them out. Delicious. You can bite of some fleshy thing from the fruit, separate the bits inside your mouth and french-kiss your partner giving him/her the separated bits, which they can eat and either spit or swallow the little seeds. Delicious!

Cut in half, hold over a bowl, and smack the round side with a wooden spoon. The pips will fall into the bowl.
