The go to Tucson Arizona and "the knife" a huge stainless guillotine is dropped onto the airframe (after the engines/tires/any other items of value are stripped). The get cut into 6x6 chunks and sent of to be recycled. I was just down there and it breaks your heart to see the carnage.

Some go to the bottom of the sea to create artificial reefs, some get stripped and have parts re-used, some are bought by aviation nuts and kept in back yards (my friend bought a cockpit of a scrapped Boeing 727-100 from The Congo), and if the aircraft is really unlucky, it will be aquired by some dodgey company and sent back into service :/
But mostly the still serviceable parts are taken out and re-sold.

I work with scrap metal and what most likely happens to them is their parts that are rebuildable are remanufactured and the rest is scrapped and melted down to build other metal objects!
