Grandparents are proud of their grand children and like something to remind them of that. My Grand mother lost my grandad when I was small and she still misses him very much. Now she lives alone in her big house and that can be very lonely for an old person, so she carries a picture of each of us including my grandfather, to remind her of all the good things in her life.
But you just got me thinking as I don't have a picture of her and I should have. The younger generation don't mean to but they don't think of things like that , maybe this is a lesson that we should all learn.Although I do carry a locket with a lock of my other grandmothers hair in it, weird I know but before she died I looked after her we were very close so that's my little reminder of her. I don't think we realise until we get older and grow up just how important family is.

Young grandchildren probably dont carry photos of anyone, probably dont even own a wallet to put them in.
Grandparents and parents are proud of their children and like to show them off. It is almost like they are saying (about the child) I made this and look how well it turned out, a bit of reflected glory, but kids can't say "I made this" about their parents and grandparents.

My nan carries a picture of her cat - but not of her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren! Guess that puts us in our place!!
But I do carry a picture of my Grandad, he was a wonderful man and I named my son after him, I have a picture of him with my son as a baby that I always carry.

The question is based upon a FALSE premise.
Grandparents DO NOT ALWAYS carry a picture of their grandchildren.
The question requires qualification. Perhaps you should have said SOME grandparents ....

Because they have bad memories - they need to check its the right child whenether they see one. Thats why the ones who don't carry photos think everyone is their grandchild. And they get locked up for that. Try going to an old people's home - they'll all think you are related to them.

Senior citizens need love and attention on them. But very few of them win that in their life. So they are very sensitive to their feelings.
But children win love and attention towards them very easily. So they do not want to worry about their grandparents. They enjoy their joy full young age.

they carry pictures to prove that their lives have meaning and that they have lived a worthwhile life. The true meaning of life is that we are only reproducing machines-- that is our only purpose, to continue the species ---and photos are proof that you have achieved that purpose
