Turn it off when they're watching the same old garbage they seen already. My daughter (9) is like that. At first she tends to protest just a little. I think she really appreciates it though. as if she needs me to help to control it and join reality, same with my son (5) when he's acting up while it's on, he's not into watching it and then will start playing real good. I tell them will turn it on later, and I need a break from the constant chatter, and they seem to understand

I think it is okay to watch some cartoons, but they must be chosen carefully for content. To break the habit, try diverting his attention with games like "Candy Land", go for a bike ride, help make supper. The easiest way would be to turn off the TV after negotiating with him 1 or 2 shows for an allotted time and use a clock he can read or timer so he has specific start and stop.

First you reduce watching the television. Let him watch cartoon for 30mins and promise him he woud see again after sometime.
Take him out for a ride and keep him busy with other activity.

yeah...child's 6...and you are...? THE ADULT. take away the remote. child knows where the power button is? unplug the TV. go take your kid to the park. go do some arts and crafts with your your child. spend lots of time doing other stuff so your kid's brain doesn't think about TV. go get some coloring books, teach your kid to cook simple and easy recipes. there is so much to do in this life. take advantage of this time.

allow him an hour a day then start taking him to the park, letting him play in the garden(if you have one) do something WITH him...try reading to him, painting ..anything!!!!!!but don't give in to tantrums and prove you are a GOOD PARENT...TURN THE TV OFF!

I love to watch them too. Sorry, and my favorite one are the Disney's - they always teach something good about life.
I can't help you.
