If you don't call you may aswell not go. You are guaranteed to be in front, or at least drawing. But I would say if the small blind goes all in then you are up against an amateur who has done it with perhaps AKoff, AQoff, which gives you a 90% chance of winning the hand. If you lose it will be a better story than I just watched my chips slowly dribble away and saw phil helmuth on a table nearby.

I think you have to play. You are clearly a favorite over any other hand. You are being offered the chance to double up, and you are at least an 80% favorite.
Yes you could get unlucky and lose, but seriously if you are not willing to be all in heads up with pocket aces, you are unlikely to even make the money anyway.
If you win this you are going to be chip leader for a while and you can play some big stack poker. You will, at least for a while, have the power to knock out any other player. So you can use this to your advantage to further increase your chip lead by bullying the smaller stacks.
Since you are talking about the main event here, if you just fold and play steady tight poker, avoiding all in situations, you will soon be seen as a tight player, and people will bully you off your hands. Playing that tight it is hard to imagine making the money. So you may as well find out now if you are going home rather than play for 3 days and then still not making any money.

I would just call. Even with pocket aces, the hand may not be a winner. I would try to immitade the enemy into thinking I have a low pair though.
On the flop, I would try to see if there is any possibly for an higher hand than the two aces. If the enemy checks or raised, I would go along with it and call.
on the river and turn, if the enemy checks again, then I would start raising. But not before checking all possibles in the flop. If there three of the same suit after the river, then I would try to think of what the enemy had, maybe even fold my aces if neccecary. If I had three of a kind or two pair, or both (a full house)...I will go all in.
that is what I would do.

Absolutely. A chance to double-up the very first hand in a tournament is absolutely huge. Actually - the chance to double-up at any point in a tournament is huge. Plus - you're not just doubling up - you're also eliminating an opponent - which is quite the big thing in a tourney.
You have to pick your spots in a tourney....sometimes those spots don't come up until several hours into a tourney - but sometimes - those spots come very, very early in the tourney. You can't play poker & be fearful - you're there to win & make the best possible decisions at the best possible time. If you have the opportunity to go all-in pre-flop with pocket AA - you have to do it each & every time.
Sometimes your AA will get cracked - but that's the game....poker is a game of skill - but also has a big luck factor attached.
If you want a game that treats its players fairly each & every time - there are other games to play (chess, for example).

if i have a pocket pair less than the other 2 aces im over a 4-1 favorite. most great players dont want to gamble at this point, but considering fact that you're going 2 have 2 gamble at some point 2 win the tourny, they'd almost certainly take them n call. they look 4 "spots" to double up early n this would certainly qualify.
i personally would probably call bcuz while i do well at the lower stake games online, i dont come anywhere near the skill needed to win a 10k buyin tourny. i'd need 2 take advantage of every good situation i could, even if its the 1st hand.

Me? Yes. I'm a solid poker player, I can beat my buddies consistently in our home game, but I have no illusions that I can consistently play a field of thousands, including hundreds of professionalls in an even playing field. As such, I have to accept any edge I can get. At worst, I'm about 70-30 to double up. I have to take that.
Maybe not if I'm Negreanu or someone who feels with some justification that they CAN outplay the field for a week.

What difference would it make if it was the first hand or the last? Of course you should call. What other 2 cards dealt are going to beat A,A? - It's the highest hand possible.
