I can't choose just one because it takes a balance to make it work. Good question though

OK I choose preserving the peace because that covers all of them for these reasons.......
To preserve the quality of life in our community.
My father was a cop for 30 years and he gained respect by preserving the peace which led to understanding. The party's involved reciprocated by not breaking the law which is a type of prevention. His presence was a service in itself. The respect to and from preserved the peace and that makes a full circle.

Picture a stadium with 5000 people and 1 police officer. The officer is responsible for making sure everyone is o.k. Now put all those people in enclosed structures, houses, apts, etc. The officer still has the same mission to perform!

There is the Spirit of the Law and the Letter of the Law. The Spirit of the law is intended to help society function smoothly, i.e., red light, speed limit, curfew, and an assorted other keep the peace, live and let live laws.

Then the Letter of the Law, i.e., Murder, Rape, Armed Robbery, this are laws that as a law enforcement officer you have no choice, and should not have a choice of enforcing.

The Spirit of the Law gives the officer the choice of, citing someone for speeding or helping them get to the hospital faster. Or to the birthday celebration that is anoying the neigbors at 2 a.m., tone down the noise or else.

So in the larger scheme, keeping the peace is by and large the most important and most often performed.

1) Preserve the Peace:
The title is Peace Officer. Our primary job is to ensure society runs smoothly and peacefully.
2) Prevent Crime:
I serve society far better to prevent a crime in the first place than to nab the perp after the damage has been done.
3) Enforce the Law:
If people violate the law at will we have anarchy, and no society can function in that state.
4) Provide Services:
Frankly, providing 'services' is what other public agencies are better suited for. I'd hate to be late to stop a bank robbery cuz I was helping someone change a tire.

I choose providing service. I became a police officer to help people during times of emergency. This includes such things as crimes (hopefully in progress), traffic accidents, disasters, and disturbances. All of these duties are important, but all of them involve providing some type of service during what the caller perceives as an emergency where they need help. Police work is so much more than just law enforcement. Think how much help we are when we provide the service of finding the child who got lost while shopping, as just one example.

So to me, providing services is the most important duty.

I chose 1 because crime is different now the suspects are so young now. Believe it or not the safest place is where The Department that does alot of traffic it keeps most people away from that City and crime isn't as high.

howdy! properly i've got considered some officer who placed on their uniform precise, with blue denims. i'm tremendously optimistic it truly is because of the fact their particular job would not require an entire uniform. while they're dealing with hard circumstances, i'm optimistic they could be in complete uniform (precise, pants, extra effective weapons, BP vest, and so on.)
