This person has decided to try to 'kick my door in' on several occasions this week and I am worried that he may do harm to myself and family if he does manage to get through the door before the police arrive

Obviously this guy is dangerous, he tried to kick your door in. I don't think he's there to bring a house warming gift. You need to file police reports each and every time an incident happens. Eventually you may be able to have the guy hospitalized or jailed. You really need to look out for your family.

If he isn't on medication or if the medication isn't working he can be dangerous. If he's kicking your door in it sounds like he needs to be in hospital. You should talk to the police now before anything serious happens and try to get something done to help this person before he harms someone.

if not controlled by meds a paranoid schizophrenic can be very dangerous because nothing you will or can say will make them believe anything other than what they perceive as the truth,if you feel in any way threatened, call the police,,they can get a doctor to assess him and if necessary, get a hospital unit to take them in,,,,you would better be advised by a professional because there is so much to consider when dealing with someone with this debilitating disease,,i have lived with and been married to one myself and it is hell, seek proper advice as you could end up needing it.if he comes to the front, you go out the back and if necessary,,tell a neighbor and see if they will let you go there until this person has either gone or been taken,,it is not wise to go it alone, keep the kids safe and look out for yourself.

If given appropriate medication, paranoia can be kept at bay and a person with schizphrenia can lead a relatively normal life without kicking doors down. At the moment though this guy sounds as though he needs urgent help and as assessment by the mental health services. Ring today.

I wouldn't say dangerous, but it is common that people with schizophrenic, have extreme mood swings and can become violent without being aware. In your case, kicking in your door is just this person anger because he/she can't get to you, not to hurt, just doesn't like the door locked or you shutting he/her out.

Sounds as though he is not taking his medication or the dosage needs adjusting

not necessarily so depends if they are taking their medication. You can use any force necessary to subdue them within reason
