How would you feel pulling a few strands of hair out of your McMuffin...that werent yours? Would you feel joyous that some loving person wanted to share their DNA molecules, grease and fleas, with you...or entwine your teeth and tonsils in a tickly hairy funloving embrace??? Or would you rather just eating the freakin Muffin, without any undue surprises?

If you hate the hairnet just put some pretty bows on it....at least they will be easier to fish out of the food.

Hair nets despite their ugliness provide three forms of protection:
1) They protect the customers from your hair and risk of bacteria etc.
2) They protect YOU from injuries due to having hair that can get caught in things - it doesn't matter how short your hair is, a net is always a good safety option.
3) They protect your employer from being sued due to the customer finding your hair in their food or getting poisoned due to germs if your hair is found in their food, and they protect the employer from being sued by you if your hair ends up caught in something and you end up with half your scalp missing due to a work-place accident.

Personally I'd rather wear the ugly hair-net and know my scalp will be okay.

However, why not speak to the other staff and try to rally your employer to allow you to wear head-scarves with the company logo or at least bandanas that are the company colour / design instead of the hair nets - alternatively, settle with a hair net that is covered by a bandana / head-scarf.

So your hair doesn't get into the food and you don't end up with people complaining about hair in their food.

Ugly or not, there are necessary! Don't you want the people who are preparing your food to be wearing them?

Sometimes you can get around this IF you can pull your hair back in a pony tail or other form of restraining it.
