Neither is "better".

They each make an important contribution and each is highly valued.

I just happen to have been a tester, my salary was comparable (often higher) to the developers, and my efforts were sincerely appreciated both by my employers and coworkers.

Either career offers plenty of opportunities and lots of $$$ if you're good!

Tester can be kickedout and can get dime a dozen. A good developer is very difficult and companies will not risk loosing him/her because they will join the competitor next day. I know, some cases where the guy resigned morning and by afternoon he started literally working for a bigger competitor on a similar project.

They require different skills and ways of thinking -- some people can do both, some people are better at one or the other. What are you asking about? In terms of job opportunities and salaries, developers probably do better.
