When a woman is on her period, she loses iron. Iron aids in the production of red blood cells, and without it her muscles react in a negative manner (causing cramping and bloating). I used to have really bad cramps before I started taking iron pills. Now I take two everyday, and I haven't had a cramp since. Trust me it will change your life. Don't waste your time using drugs that trick the brain into thinking that the pain is gone. The best brand of iron pills is Sundown Carbonyl Iron, Good Luck!

Too much pressure of blood coming out causes menstrual cramping. You cannot avoid it. Just calm down and let it go. After that, you'll be relieved.

Try Calcium-magnesium-zinc pills with each meal 3 times daily and take a good high potency multivitamin-mineral tablet each day. Fish oil capsules are also thought to be helpful. Good luck!

I don't know what causes it but, taking Motrin {or any Ibuprofen} starting a day before and 1-2 days after you start your period will prevent the cramping..Motrin is a smooth muscle relaxant, and your uterus is a smooth muscle.

its a natural process of your body, there are things sold at drugstores like Midol and Pamprin, but they help only a little, the thing that helped me the most was red raspberry leaf tea, that has a chemical in the leaf that helps relax the cervix.
