As far as your religion is in accord with your desires, then yes, it will have a great impact on your life, greater than anyone else belief.
For example, if you are born in a muslim family but when you grow up you don't feel like taking a shower every morning, praying five times a day, fast a month, don't drink alcohol... and what you want is to have fun, drink your beers everynight... pray at least once a week, then you will surely prefer to be a catholic.

It depends what your values are. If you are a thinking person with emotions, than what you believe is the most important thing to you. But if you live below the waist, i.e. if your life consists of what you can consume, and of your material comforts, than what others believe will impact you more.
If you know that the way you think and live today, will reflect in the way you will have to live tomorrow, you would not even consider what others believe. Statistically speaking, most people believe in the "here and now". We all are creating our own reality by the choices that we make, and the way we think.

I may be missing the point, here, but I couldn't conceive my life otherwise. My life is based on what I believe. And except for some very cynical people, I would say everybody can claim the same.

Wow. I just thinking about that today. For me personally, yes it does. For everyone else, it depends on the individual. What I think and believe in is'nt accepted to most other people in society. It's called, " thinking outside the box". (Just use your search engine to find out what that means. Their are others who can explain it better than I)

For most of my life, yes. In the last few years, no.
I will admit to submitting to the cookie-cutter existence so many of us have accepted. To do what I'm expected of, to filter what I say and even what I think.
When I look around me, I see drones. So many people who accept others beliefs as their own and carry on with their well-meshed existence.
The truth is that most of us are sheep, although we all talk like shepards. We all claim to have our own ideas, take our own path. Yet very few of us walk an unbeaten path and only in the boldest periods of our lives.
I long to have my own beliefs again. To walk to the beat of my own drum. Thank you for asking the question. It's given me a little more self-awareness today, as I read from so many others who claim to think for themselves (a statistical impossibility).
Here's to those rare moments of lucid, self directed thought we all have in our finest hours!

I like to think I am open-minded concerning other people's beliefs; but, quite frankly, I have always needed to do my own thinking. I am not terribly proud of that fact, but to compensate, I make an effort to respect all observations before I form an opinion. Actual beliefs... I have to form my own.
