It could be a problem with your floppy disk or floppy disk drive. Floppy disks and drives are made so cheap nowadays, they cannot be trusted. Try copying the file from the floppy to your computer first and then see if you can open it. If it won't copy, you know the problem is probably with disk (or drive if you've opened it on another computer).

If it copies to your computer, but still doesn't open, let us know what error message comes up. That is always a help.

Also, try to open it with Wordpad rather than Microsoft Word and see what happens.

If you are going to be copying files in the future, and can't copy them across the network/internet, then I'd suggest getting a USB memory stick. They are fairly cheap now adays, can hold 100s of floppys (depending on size) and are much more reliable.

Hi,

You can right click on the doc(in the floppy) & save it in a different format like text in notepad or so , this way you can have your content copied & then you can sdave it in your word XP once its on your system.

I'm not an expert...this was a general advise...

I'm sorry if it won't work out..
anywz all the best

the problem is not with your floppy. you must use the same operating system to open it. The problem is with the windowsxp because it use to check all the device you have inserted new and also the 98 is 16bit os and where as xp is 64 bit.

It seems to be an incompatibility between FAT32 and NTFS. Maybe you can convert the floppy into a NTFS disk, by using the command "convert" in a DOS prompt.
