I don't understand why horseracing isn't more popular. After all, women should like it, they naturally like horses. And I know alot of people who don't watch the Kentucky Derby or Breeders Cup, but after I show them a few races, and they know some of the contenders they get as excited as anyone I've seen. I guess what I'm getting at is, if all your friends were into it, or office mates discussed it at the water cooler, and you were familiar with some of the contenders, could you get into it?

I love the sport and have worked within the industry, I'm psyched out of my mind to be going to Belmont for Super Saturday this weekend (and my friends all think I'm nuts). But I also understand how casual fans can be turned off by racing. Catastrophic breakdowns turn off a large amount of people. I can't tell you how many people I've met who say 'I loved horse racing but after ...(Go For Wand, Ruffian, etc) I never watched again'. And while Barbaro's story may win back some of those fans, death is a hard sell. The second problem is similar - the horses don't run often enough to build a fan base. With all the hoopla created over the recent 2/3rds Triple Crown winners, the only one still going is Funny Cide. And while he still draws a crowd whenever he runs it isn't the 100,000 people who were there for the Belmont Stakes. Smarty Jones, Afleet Alex, Ghostzapper, etc. are flash in the pan celebrities who capture the minds of the public one day then retire the next. The third most dificult sell is handicapping. True racing would benefit from casual 'watercooler' fans but those aren't the people investing lots of money at the windows. Bridiging that gap is hard - and convincing the tracks that it is important to bring in more casual fans (who are less likely to spend money at the track) is a tough sell in and of itself.

.Oh yes anyone can get into the art of horse racing. Horse is so strong and powerful in stride.Threw history our horse racing gave people hope. look at the war times and how these animals brought us closer. Ive had a few race horses and believe me it is long road to the winner circle. It cost allot and complete dedication and love to these warriors.I know thousand are destroyed each year and only 10 percent make it to a track. They still are babbies when ran but big babies with knees not completely together. It is SAD, But when the bell rings and gate throws open and the power of these animal is like no high i could never know unless anothr race. Check out the True movie on Phar Lap and you will get an insight of racing. PRomise!

Horse racing ROCKS!! It's the best. Use to own a couple thoroughbreds.. raced at Long acres Tukwilla Wash. There use to be more people doing the races.. Lots of chicks.. But with gambling like everywhere. The gambling dollar has been spread around all over. A person really has to be a horse player/handicapper to get into it.. lots of people think it to slow.. you know 20 min....half hour or more between races.. There is nothing like hitting those ponies though.. few exactas..couple tri's.. maybe a super..Good day!

I'm a woman and I love horseracing and everything the horse means to their connections.
Lots of my favorites are racing Saturday:
Lava Man is racing on Race 6 in Califonia at 18:17
Dylan Thomas, son of Danehill is racing on Race 10 in NY
Honey Ryder is racing on Race 7 in NY at 16:08
Silver Train is racing on Race 8 in NY at 16:43
English Channel is racing on Race 9 in NY
Discreet Cat, Wait a While, Songster, High Cotton, Attima are also high up there in my esteem.
I feel bad for Barbaro and Bluegrass Cat whose careers are over.
My heart goes for the owners of Lost in the Fog who was euthanized because of terminal cancer. I loved watching the rivalry with Carthage and Lost in the Fog.
Yea, I love horseracing.

I worked on a breeding training racing farm and rode as a exercise rider at the track so I love horse racing.
I watch at least one race per day most days more.
I own thoroughbreds now.
So yes I like it and understand the money it can generate for a
city with a race track.

I love horse racing. It's the people that I find annoying! That's why I no longer attend. Idiot drunks & con artists for the most part! Even on the upper end seats, you have to contend with the higher class idiots who show less respect for others than the so-called low-lifes!

i guess some people think its boring.not as intresting as stinking baseball or football.and maybe the 'gambling' or something?i like the sport except that they break and race horse way too young i think.that kind of strenuous exercise on a young horse could mess its legs up for life.
