Many of you have said that Islam is a branch of Judaism and Christianity, but which part of the scriptures do you believe is true.
I don't need to hear about how errant you tyhink the Bible is. That's old news. But if you are a branch, from which part of the tree do you grow?

jokedrugs,
I take pride in that I do service to my Lord.
The truth, it's life to some, and death to others. I know that some of them are cutthroats, that's what I expect,
Proverbs 1:15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
I am honored.

Ok.. this seems like an interesting question to bring up.
Anyways, am not gonna diss the Christians or Jews. No point in doing that.
Well, I don't think that Islam is a branch of Judaism or Christianity, rather its similar to these two religions.
I've read parts of the Bible and the English version of the Quran and there are some similarities. For starters, we believe in the existence of Jesus, Jacob, Abraham, Moses, Solomon, Isaac, Ishmael, Noah and the other prophets mentioned in the Bible.
Some of the stories of the prophets mentioned in the Bible and the Quran are also similar. For example, when the Red Sea parted and a path was created for all of Moses followers to walk to the other side to safety, that is mentioned in the Quran.
In the Bible, it is mentioned that Abraham left his child and second wife in the desert as his first wife was unhappy. However, there are a few inconsistencies in the two holy books.
Please pardon that I am not able to explain well at the moment. I read about Christianity a few years back so my memory is kinda fuzzy.
FYI, as Muslims, we cannot disbelieve in the Bible and Torah. These two holy books were also from God but we believe that they've just been changed by humans thus the truth has not much substance anymore.
We believe that God sent down to 4 prophets the truth. They are David to whom he sent the Psalms, Moses to whom he revealed the Torah, Jesus to whom he sent the Gospels and to Mohammad whom he sent the Quran.
We believe that the Quran is the final holy book which God sent for all mankind and he will protect its truth. As for Muhammad, he is the seal of all of God's prophets. After him, there will not be any more prophets.
Hope this helps you understand Islam better even though I don't think I quite answered your question.

This is an add on from the posting above:
Well, mankind is born from Adam and Eve and we believe in all the prophets up to the point of Jesus' birth. We believe that Jesus too was God's prophet and not his son. Mary was a virgin when she birthed Jesus.
Muhammad, who is the only Arab prophet, comes from Abraham. From Abraham's line, also came Jesus. I know that Jesus' coming from Abraham's line is mentioned in the Bible.
As a Christian, you would not believe in Muhammad and some would diss him and criticise him. But from a book I read, a reverend ranked Muhammad as the greatest human that ever lived, Moses being the 2nd and Jesus being third. Why is this so? I seriously can't comprehend it since Christians believe in Jesus as being their Lord Almighty and that when he died at the cross, the sins of the Christians were forgiven. Am I right in this aspect?
Please tell me more about Christianity as I know about other religions in greater detail as compared to Christianity.

i really enjoyed your phrasing... as a convert to islam this is the way i see it..... a line of faith began with adam and eve and continued in a straight line until the birth of Jesus (isa sa) at this point a branch was made from the original line until the birth of Muhammad (saw) and which point there was another branch made..... i know this probably isnt the theology you are looking for but this has always been my mental picture and i felt it applied to your phrasing
also 2:62
Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
peace be on the people of the book this ramadan

We believe in the Torah (Old testament), the books of Dawud (David), Sulaiman (Solomon)...we are even instructed by the Quran to respect the Injeel (Gospel) and the People of the Book (Christians) even if most Christians do not respect Islam and the Muslims.
Peace.

We suppose that the Jewish scriptures and the Christian scriptures had been each found out via the One actual God however had been later modified via men and women so He despatched down the Quran because the very final revelation to reinstate what He had at the start mentioned. The Quran has remained unchanged given that it was once found out.
