More importantly, what kind of supreme being creates people to Pray to him, to feed his ego?

It helps the ego of the praying folk. They feel like they're doing something.

That being said, there *can* be benefit to prayer. If it's used as a focus, then it can drive a person to better his life. In a sense, it's not too different from a Wiccan spell. The prayer or spell doesn't have any effect by itself, but the fact that the religious person is able to focus on the task can make a difference.

From what I've seen, prayer has not always had this positive of an impact. Sometimes it does, but most of the time, prayer is used as a way to "placate the sky pixie." The religious person is asking for something and hopes to ward off evil. So strong is the hope that such a tactic works that these religious people only remember the times when they prayed and something happened that would qualify as fitting the prayer, yet they conveniently forget to mention all the times the prayer didn't work.

If there is an omniscient god, then prayer is useless. Without such a god, prayer can be as useful as pagan spells, meditation, and learning. Not all prayer is this useful, though.

Edit: The user named djmantx has this to say, "Ego is a problem of man not God." I'm sure that Job would disagree. Job lost everything because God could not keep his ego in check.

Prayers are more beneficient for those who ask rather than the one receiving. We don't know about the existence of the receiver but some believe it is real, god exist.

Take for eg, you are in distress, close to breakdown. If you do not pray and remove all what is in ur heart with the idea in mind that a superior body or the most superior godhead is listening to you and will help you, you will definitely be healed by the action of asking. It's not a miracle. It's a science.

Another example, for those who believe in god. If god is the creator of everything then you will have to show the latter your gratitude. If you own a car and you lend it to your neighbour as his car is damage and he needs it badly, what will he do when returning it to you? Thank you, it's very kind of you, generous...

Then before you eat, before you drink the water fall from the sky, to whom shall you send your gratitude? It's not to breed ego, it's be kind with the kind.

:)

I think that's an excellent point, and is a genuine problem with the contradictions inherent in the monotheist concept of a God that is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-benevolent. It is difficult to see why any god would require ego-gratification or even obtain it meaningfully from beings of our nature. Cultivation of a relationship wouldn't require that kind of prayer; meditation would be more fitting ... and such a relationship implies some degree of mutuality. Something appears to be out of kilter with the ideas prevalent among the sheepish crowd of human beings, one way or another. It's pretty clear that the Ancients did not tremble in terror before their Gods, but rather sought to strike a good bargain!

Because you will never receive an answer to any question if you never ask. Prayer constitutes talking to God and listening to him. He is all knowing but he still wants you to have a relationship with him

And thats the significance of prayer. To develop, maintain and improve your personal relationship with God. He didnt create you to feed his ego anymore than your mother brought you into this world just to make you get water for her when shes thirsty.
He brought you into this world to give you a chance to live and discover Him so you may come into a relationship with Him

The significance is this: an omnicient being will know your thoughts. When you give voice to your thoughts, you are saying what God already knows, and therefore, you re-inforce that knowledge within yourself, because you have heard it. You don't even have to say anything that makes sense. Just put emotion into it, and it will be understood.

The kind of supreme being that creates people to Pray to him and feed his ego: I cannot deduce the motives of a omnicient creature properly, since he has no equal.

Spookshow Baby,
"What is the significance of prayers in context to omniscience of god, since god is all knowing of course?"
The thing I have been telling you about all along. I guess you didn't catch that. We were made to walk and talk with God. You know, a relationship. Friends. Just what Adam was doing. God wants us to be with Him and talk to Him. You don't have to believe it, but at least remember what you saw!

About God's ego:
I don't know if ego has anything to do with it, and I don't care. He's God and He will forgive a shittyass like me. He wants me to be with Him forever. He loves me even though I suck.

Hell, if He can love me, I'm sure He could love you. I think that you wouldn't want that though. Your loss.

One of the first question I ever asked on here had to do with prayer. I got an interesting answer. Check it out.

"Does He give us everything we want? Of course not. He's a lot smarter than that. If you question whether our prayers can change the course of His plan, I would say no, they can't. His plan was made with our prayers in mind, as an integral component. In this light, our prayers were answered before we were even born. How's that for fast!"

"Just remember... because the plan is set, you still have to send Him your prayers. If you don't ask, your prayer never was, and it was never part of His considerations when He made His plan. So ask!"

It's a strange concept.

Ego is a problem of man not God. As you would have learned had you studied and sought God through his word and in prayer. I could give you the cliff notes of the gospel here but if you choose to know the truth you will seek it out as all of those who have value do. It is those who pray that they might develop a realtionship with God who reveals himself to them. Many things about God are incomprehensible to a man who has no value and takes no time to come to know him it is through this relationship that many have come to know his love and to worship him.

Ahhh, my favourite little protectorate, I missed you while I was away, and complete with Betty Page picture.

Name one supreme being who doesn't want prayers/sacrifice in his/her or its name. The significance isn't for God himself, but for the humans who need to know that random chance might be changed in their favour by prayer. They need to bolster their faith. They need to fuel their beliefs as much as they can on the off chance they make it to and through the pearly gates.
