you should go see a doctor and take an allegry test to see what you are allergic to if you dont already know. i am allergic to many things and the doctor prescribed me zyrtec. this is better than claritin. i am not sure how long hives last but make an appointment to see ur doctor. i get hives too and when i take a zyrtec when i have the hives, it goes away in 10 minutes. zyrtec does prevent hives.

Hi Speedy - Oh yes, you can get hives from nervousness - I got them on my very first date! You can also get them from allergies, and a certain kind of hives do come from heat, especially in a tropical environment like I live in. If you are not taking any kind of other allergy medication, even over the counter stuff, try taking one or two Benadryl and they should take the itching down an little bit. Another great home remedy is to take about a handful of oatmeal, put it in the very center of a washcloth and then gather up the edges of the washcloth (so you have a little bundle)and fasten it with a rubberband - with the oatmeal inside the washcloth so it can't float out. Soak in a lukewarm bath with the oatmeal cloth floating around in your tub, and your skin will feel so much better. Aveeno makes little packages of finely ground oatmeal that you can dissolve in your tub, and it makes both hives and sunburn feel SO MUCH BETTER!

Each person is different and each case depending on severity can last for different lengths of time.........
It took me 3 weeks to get over an allergic reaction that resulted in hives.... the welts lasted days and swelled like giant misquito bites and itched like them too.
I had 3 steroid shots and a 5 day steroid pack. Cool showers help, and loose fitting clothes as well as staying cool an out of the heat.
You should see a doctor, have allergy testing done and try to avoid what every it was that caused it.
Good luck... hope you are better soon.

hey, i had hives before. the best thing is do not overheat. this will cause your hives to get irritated itchy and soon you will scratch and spread it. DO NOT SCRATCH! if you want to sooth your itches take a nice warm oatmeal bath. i took benadrl for mine. it depends also how bad the hives are. mine were all over my torso arms and legs but all i did was come in from the heat outside and noticed the hives starting to go away the next day.

I had a really bizarre experience with hives a couple of years ago. I broke out every evening for a couple of weeks and they would just disappear for no reason. Doctors couldn't help me. I took Benadryl. I assume it was a stress thing.

Take benadryl its better. What is causing the hives? If you find that then maybe you won't get them again. Actually I use Cheer free when I wash my clothes because other products that have fragrance make me have hives. So really you have to alleviate the problem first to get rid of them.
