half the US population believes in demons, angels, and that jesus will be back any day to fly them to heaven ... could this be connected?

Scientists are staying in their own countries now. Remember Operation Paperclip? There is a good spread of innovation around the world these days. You Americans still make the news, look at the Nobel prizes given out this week, but as the world depolarises there is no need for a centralization of resources.
Also, i wouldn’t be surprised if there was a link between a lack of scientific development and crazy religions. I mean look at how stem cell research has been stopped by religious groups, and human cloning. I don’t see why it should have any bearing on the scientific community what a bunch of people who willingly give up logical thought think.

The USA never had anything called brains. All the achievements made by that stupid country is because of Asians and the Europeans. There are many examples. Like the A-bombs and the H-bombs were made by German scientists and so were the first rockets. The USSR made all the land-marks in Science, like space race and the first ICBM and the computer BESM - 1.
The americans are idiots who don't know anything except style, fashion, looks and all other meaning-less shitts. As mentioned above, american technology no matter how much beautifull and stylish-high-tech can never match the simple and efficient knowledge and science of the East, Asia and Russia, previously known as the allmighty USSR, The Soviet Union.

We failed to teach and to pay the teacher well enough.
WE quit Phonics for learning to read and now have more illiterate than can be believed.... The education system and more has deteriorated so baddly. something has to give. People are getting upset about all the corporate scandals and corruption and too many are retreating into their own personal lala land...you did not ask for a solution just what happened... we got lazy and complacent and fail to teach by example

We got too confident, and we let religious extremists start to call the shots on what can and cannot be taught in a classroom. That plus advancing intellectual laziness and a tendency to rest on our own laurels. The general public just seems to be content to coast on what the hard working scientists produce without trying to learn much about it.

Our military budget is larger then the next 20 countries combined, that's what happened. We are not a country of limitless money. Consequently when we fund out military the money has to come out of somewhere. Currently our education system is ranked 17th in the world. But our Military might is unrivaled.

Public education has become corrupted as an institution. Liberals waste millions babysitting disinterested kids in "diversity" experiments.
Parents and their children have a sense of entitlement instead of duty.
There are no consequences for failure, just the safety-net of mediocrity.
Colleges have become "Grade 13" diploma mills. They encourage mediocrity instead of excellence.

This generation got lazy in their studies, work-ethic, has everything handed down to them and doesn't know the value of a dollar.
That is why other nations are now passing the USA.
