HAHA! They'd have to give a rip first!
Seems to me we live in a society that's begun to admire slang and "tough guy" behavior more than education and eloquence.
I also TOTALLY agree with Mr Curious... I think people stopped reading a long time ago.
But my first thought, really? That can't be the stupidest thing you've noticed about poorly educated people, but it is a good one.

I don't completely understand the question. Are you saying that people should always use you're instead of your or are you saying that they are using your when it is suppose to be you're.
Your states ownership, something that belongs to you.
You're is an abbreviation for you are.

like everything else, some people know & some do not. some prefer to write informally, especially on the internet... "toward" & "towards" do not have the same usage, but very rarely in spoken language does it really make a difference. there are a lot of language conventions & nuances that very few people know & practice.

Lazy educators did not correct them when they made the mistake in the first place. Our schools are falling further and further behind the rest of the world because educators are too lazy to correct the students and the students are resentful of correction.

Your right. People who don't read much often make that mistake. If you wrote a book on grammar I'd be one of you're biggest fans.

English is not a phonetic language, but some people are striving hard to make it one.

I guess it's hard for them to figure out that "you're" means "you are" and your means "belonging to you". It's annoying, I know!

Either because they're lazy and they don't care about correct grammar, or they don't have good schooling.
