Make sure you have your complete health record. Try to remember when this began or became a problem. Remember if there was some type of catalyst.
You will not have to ask for meds. Most psychiatrist start you on them to see itf they help, without any prodding. Most of them will make you sleepy and even more emotional for the first several weeks. Make sure the cure is better than the illness.

Most doctors start with, Why did you come to see me? And you should answer because I having uncontrolled mood swings and get very nervous around people. It is affecting my ability to ....

I would urge you to consider asking for a counseling referral if the doctor only discusses a pill as a remedy. Social anxiety is best "cured" with coping techniques as well as drugs. If it is just starting, a coping technique and a journal may help you overcome most of your problems.
Most drugs lose their effect and need to be bolstered by other drugs. It gets to be an unending cycle in which you can become depressed because of the medication routines.
Even without a referral I would like to suggest you look at a healthy diet and a walk. Just walk around the block. Then walk around another block tomorrow. Then walk around both blocks or to the park ... whatever, just increase your activity. It will raise your own serotonin levels without any drugs and you will not easily get addicted. Try gardenning, swimming, biking ...
Also, make sure you are getting all of your vitamin B's and Calcium, maganes, and potassium. Your thyroids, hypothyroids, and other control centers will not work without the proper balance of nutrients.
Try starting a journal so you know if anything is triggering or making your symptoms worse.
I wish happiness, normalcy, answers to life, came in a pill. But at this point I am not so sure. Pills do not increase your control, make you normal over-night, nor solve all that bothers you. They can help, but usually they also will trigger another problem, such as, headaches, being sleepy, uncontrollable crying jags, gain weight, lose weight, acid reflux, constipation, impotence, ... the list goes on and on.
You are entering the twilight zone, so make sure to map your journey.

It sounds to me like you think too much. Have you ever been in a situation and just let it happen? I have a weird suggestion for you; Try the opposite of whatever you normally do in social situations. To do this correctly you first need to observe what it is you normally do, so pay attention. Then try not bothering to think of what to say, just let it come to you, and if nothing comes, oh well, whats the worst that can happen. Once you really focus your attention on what others are saying, you take your attention off yourself.

I think its usually better to just tell them your symptoms. They will guide you into telling them the things they need to know. If you have anxiety they will probably prescribe some pills for you. I take pills for depression and it helps my social anxiety too. Good luck to you. I bet you'll be feeling better soon.

Just be completely honest. Also remember that they are the expert and not you, so you may have some misinformation and if you are uncomfortable with a doctor's diagnosis and it doesn't make sense to you, don't be shy about asking them to explain it to you further and to give you educational materials so that you can educate yourself about your problem.

you start out with telling them your medical history. Then just be yourself and tell them what is bothering you. They will probably have you see a therapist a couple of times to evaluate if you need medication.

Just answer his questions as honestly and thoroughly as you can, but most importantly...BE HONEST! They cant help you if you arent completely truthful with whats going on with you.
