Whatever form of belief can be blinding. Even non-believers would make a person blind to see the right of others to be accepted for what they are.
I have observed many people like you are so blind to see reality about other people's right to exist and believe for what they think is right for them.
If you think you know better, help those blind to see without insulting thier dignity. Prove you point to serve them right but never judge them as blind or idiot. Religion may have caused many to fall victim to a blind belief but it's original intention was to bring mankind away from moral degradations. It is not religion that blinds them, it is the false teaching injected into them for their minds to be controlled for other interests.

Not some, all are blinded by religion.

Religion is a set of beliefs where each belief is a brick, and all the beliefs together creates a wall, a huge wall. That's the topmost function of a religion. To protect you from outside. This protection is itself a blindness to keep you away from what the founder or founders of that particular religion believe as wrong, bad, corrupted and dangerous that you may leave their vicious circle and thus lose power over you.

Religion is blindness as you cannot see with your eyes, but from their eyes. The eyes of their laws, of their logics. You cannot think by yourself when you enter a religion. All your judgements have for foundation their laws. All religions are alike. Even atheism which is a belief like any others.

I see this question a lot here.

People that are blinded by their religion are the ones that just take their parents or friends word for it and just go with the flow and never question their church or themselves. They trust others and believe whatever they say. I think this is dangerous. I was baptized Catholic, went to Catholic schools and received some of the Catholic sacraments, go to mass, receive communion, etc. I was forced to do this by my parents. Weird thing is that my parents rarely talked about God and my father rarely followed most of the commandments. I looked hard at my family and thought to myself, "why do they say they are Catholics but none of them are doing what the Catholic church teaches." I flunked 2 religions classes in my senior year of high school because I refused to read the bible. If I had a question, the teacher would simply say "because the bible says so". I decided to leave the church and look elsewhere for answers. I was even angry at God Himself for letting these people lead me into darkness and confusion. After 15 years of searching, I mean I talked with people of all religions, I read many different holy books, I read history books, etc. I decided to return to the Catholic Church on my own accord. I read the Bible and when I don't understand a verse or chapter or even a word, I look it up. I have 14 different resource books at home that I use weekly when I read the Bible. I ask a lot of questions. After learning ancient Hebrew and Greek and some Arabic and Latin, I have found out that the Catholic Bible is 100% correctly translated from the early Hebrew Bible. English words mess up a lot of things and other Christian bibles have put in their own interpretations. And have taken out certain verses, chapters and books to fit their own lifestyle. It's true!

I might have been 'blinded' during my childhood and I regret the fact that I didn't fight it harder and didn't continue to ask more questions. But after 18 yrs now, I have faith that my Catholic faith is right. Of course, people will argue that and I'm up for the challenge, but in the end, my faith is my faith. What I believe and agree with is what the Catholic Church teaches. But I have to be aware of outside people coming in and changing rules. Like New Agers and feminists. Being a Catholic is difficult but I think well worth it. So now I can say I am NOT blinded by religion. Nor by faith. I never take things for granted. I alway look into things before I make a decision and even an opinion.

People that are blinded choose not to dive fully into their religion/faith. They are the lost ones. I'll even argue about the color teal with my mother. I will get samples of teal items and show her that her item isn't teal. I like challenges and I like to learn. I am openminded and will listen to anything and read anything. If it goes against God, I leave it alone.

as more or less said...

people are blinded by religion for the same reason others are blinded by disbelief in such things.

look at how many atheists on here can't bear to even momentarily entertain the idea of metaphysical things even existing.
then look how many religious types deny the possibility of them NOT existing?

its the same thing really, 2 extremes of the same coin.

and on the third side of the coin (I'm working with 4 dimensions here... OK!?) you have some who naturally have sense of spiritual things, who have abilitys and gifts and whatnot. for them (such as myself) its truly difficult to fathom what it would be like to not have those. just as its hard to imagine what it'd truly be like to go around blind and/or deaf from birth. and those without it...(4th side of the coin) can't accept the idea that theres this whole side of things they are totally oblivious to.

edit:
>>"Since we can only perceive whatever enters our five senses, everything that our five senses don't absorb is hidden from us. Thus, the true picture of reality cannot be perceived from these five senses, and so we need to come up with philosophies and theories (religion being one of them), so that we have some kind of hope. "<<

this is a good example of what I just said. not everyone IS limited to the 5 organic senses. there are signifigant amount of things beyond these 5 senses, and SOME people are capable of perceiving these things. if you can, its hard to imagine not being able to, if you can't, it seems to be practically unfathomable to HAVE that sense.

I mean intellectually someone who was born blind might be able to conceptualize the concept of "color" but they can't truly grasp what color is, or the beauty of colorful things that are 100% visual (rainbows, sunsets, ect)

Some people are looking for emotional release. Some are looking for simple answers. Some are looking for justification of all their fears and doubts. It's why so many of us Christians get accused of religious fervor or bigotry, etc. It's too bad.

God told us to get educated about Him, and to be good examples. We're not supposed to say or do things that would reflect badly on other Christians. It's a tall order, especially for young people who are trying to find their way in the world. Religion itself has gotten a bad name.

Since we can only perceive whatever enters our five senses, everything that our five senses don't absorb is hidden from us. Thus, the true picture of reality cannot be perceived from these five senses, and so we need to come up with philosophies and theories (religion being one of them), so that we have some kind of hope.

We have religions to save us from the dark, empty void which stands behind all of them.

That dark, empty void is titled by the question, "What is the true meaning of life?"

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 KJV

Perhaps you were referring to denominational dogma?

Why are people blinded by anything. You've got people not only blinded by religion. You've got those who are blinded by love, blinded by power, blinded by greed, blinded by sexual urges, and so on and so on and so on. Weak minded is my guess.

You didn't give an example it's hard to answer. the way I see it God reveals things to those who seek him that others may not see therefore the problem you are experiencing may be with you not the ones that you deem blind.
