WHAT WOULD IT TAKE ?
A miricle.
I own a motorcycle, walk to work and my local tavern, & ride my bicycle to do errands in town.
By the way, I don't believe in global warming. I do it for the air we breath.

Car pooling and use of public transportation is common sense. I don't know if it would have much effect on global warming, though.
Are we prepared to cap all the volcanoes and move the earth further away from the sun? A lot of global warming is probably not manageable by human activity. We should do what we can do. Drive hybrids or fuel efficient cars, use public transportation, carpool, all of it.
If human activity plays any part in global warming, changing this will take decades at the minimum. It will not happen in my lifetime.

Where I live (Las Vegas) the public transportation system is a joke - a real joke. You can rarely ride a bus for more than a couple of miles without it breaking down and the drivers are rude and arrogant. The managerial staff has a "screw you" attitude and rarely acts on a complaint.
Having said that, I ride a motorcycle as much as I can but do own a car.
What would it take for me to drive less? Better public transportation systems, simple as that.
Let's spend our "hard given" tax dollars on that instead of wars, foreign aid to countries who stab us in the back.
And finally, let me play Devil's Advocate here for just a minute. What do "we" do about other countries and their cars and trucks? We can only do so much by ourselves for ourselves. It has to be a world-wide effort or it will not work.

I own a gas-burning car. I am not proud of this. I've seen the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. It is quite disturbing. I and my wife have decided that we will not buy a gas burning automobile again. We hope to live in a place where we can use an electric vehicle to travel the few miles to work every day around 2009 or so, thus there ought to be no need to buy another gas-burning automobile. We will, of course, cast our votes for political leaders who, unlike the current U.S. president, are willing to address the concerns of knowledgable scientists.
