The only thing keeping the Earth spinning is conservation of angular momemtum. It's like a top that will take billions of years to come to a stop. The Earth will slow until it keeps one face towards the Moon. At that point, the Moon's gravity will keep it from slowing any more.

Note: tides are SLOWING the Earth's spin by friction. The Sun's gravity is slowing the Earth's spin.

What leads you to believe that extracting anything from the earth would stop it from spinning? Matter does not disappear - it can only change form. Whatever is extracted is still on the earth somewhere, so even if it did play a part, as you are guessing, it wouldn't matter because it's still matter. Dig?

Fossil fuels don't keep the Earth spinning; the sun's gravity is what does it.

The fuel we are extracting remains on the earth. It has nothing to do with the earth's rotation.

let me take you back to i dont know 3rd grade science here. The earth is spinning because of the gravatational pull from the sun.
