How can you stop finches from mating?

buy yourself a seperate cage one big enough to house the males , and keep the other one to house the females take out all nesting materials ie nest cotton or what ever u may use for the nest etc , u may have o go and have the birds sexed if u r unsure bout what sex is what . female birds will lay eggs rather they mate or not the eggs just wont hatch , and some female birds will also try mating with another female this is normal it just that there mature enough to be breed but if u dont want them to mate anymore just seperate them adn place them in seperate rooms form one another if possible

Realistically, separating them by sex is difficult at best. Being caught, handled and set loose in a different cage can also be stressful for them.

Remove any nesting areas.
Try using gravity trough-like feeders for food and water to be sure they don’t nest in a bowl.
Make sure the bottom of the cage is wire with a tray below, this way any eggs they lay will fall through the cage and they won’t nest on the bottom.
Remove any toys that they can shred and attempt to nest with.

Separate them. But if the main thing is that you don't want to deal with babies, then when the female lays eggs, let them stay in the cage for a day or two, then remove them and toss them in the trash.
