About 2 months ago, this thing just appeared on my neck. At first I thought it was a blood blister, but it kinda resembles a mole too. I was hoping it would go away on its own. It seems to have gotten smaller, but now it seems to be more raised. It's really noticeable and people constantly make comments about it.

I went to a regular doctor yesterday and he said it was nothing serious/dangerous. But I couldn't really understand him. I think he was saying "strawberry hemangioma" but I researched those and it says they are birthmarks that occur on children. I'm 18! I want to go to a dermatologist and get rid of it, but I have no healthcare coverage.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Is there anything that I can do to get rid of it or at least reduce the appearance of it until I can get to a dermatologist?

The skin cancer possibility kinda scares me!

I did go on vacation back in July and was pretty badly sunburned.

I had something similar right between my freakin' eyes. I went to the doc and he said it's probably nothing. So I got a second opinion and they said the same thing, except they took it off and had it tested. It was a form of skin cancer and it was caught before anything really, really bad happened.
Doctor's aren't perfect, so if it's not normal, you're worried, or others have expressed concern - do yourself a favor and have it removed. Even if it's nothing, better safe than sorry.
Don't worry, you'll be fine.

It doesn't sound like a skin cancer but I don't trust the diagnosis of a dr that just looks at it and does nothing. Better safe than sorry, demand to have it tested. It will be removed in the process. This may leave a scar but it was probably never going away on its own anyway.

The most common causes of melanoma are:

* Exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and exposure at high altitudes.
o Damage to the DNA of melanocytes from exposure to the sun and its UV light radiation is the single most important factor in the cause of melanoma.
o Tanning salons also expose your body to UV radiation and increase your risk of developing melanoma.2, 3
o The depletion of the ozone layer may be significantly affecting the incidence of melanoma. It is estimated that there is a 1% increase in melanoma with each percentage decrease in the ozone layer.3, 4
* Family history of melanoma.
* Atypical moles.
* An impaired immune system, especially if you have had an organ transplant, leukemia, or lymphoma.

WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE.STOP SCARING THE GIRL.dont worry its nothing serious believe me.It must be a kind of pigment or a wart . i mean skin cancer is really more severe than such things.It might be a wart,or something not too serious.just go to a very good dermatologist and ask him out.I'm sure its nothing serious.Goodluck

get a high dose of vitamin E oil capsules and rub it in constantly. might work. it took care of a funny raised dark spot on my forehead. get health care and go see a dermatologist. wouldn't want it to be cancerous.

Does it stick out? It could be a skin tag, they are pretty harmless and you can have them removed easily by a dermatologist.
