A friend and I who are on the board of a nonprofit in DC have to attend a board meeting. We travel at our own expense, and the flight from the west coast is already expensive. We need three nights at a centrally located, safe, clean, modern or modernized (must have internet access) hotel, within walking distance of 17th & I Street. Not to exceed $200/night, taxes included. Any help much appreciated.

Hotel Helix near Dupont Circle. Funky and hip with great design flair. Plus, complimentary champagne from 5-6pm. I always recommend this for friends coming into town.

I'd recommend the Governor's House Hotel on 17th and Rhode Island. They just completed a big renovation project and the common areas are gorgeous. Great bar and restaurant (although a bit pricey). Outstanding service, nice rooms, you would be about 3 or 4 blocks from 17th and I. Fantastic, safe neighborhood. Hotel is on a quiet block about 2-3 blocks from DuPont Circle which is packed full of nightlife, restaurants, shopping, etc.

They are going through a name change and sooner or later will be called the Beacon Hotel but it's the same staff, service, etc.

I was just in DC and stayed at the JW Marriott at 14th and Pennsylvania Ave. I paid just under $200/night. It's been recently remodeled. I would recommend this hotel to you. It's a little over 1/2 walking from 17th and I.

We just stayed at the Maison Orleans B&B there on 5th St SE, near the Eastern Market area and metro stop, just off Penn Ave. It's within easy walking distance to the capital, and runs $140 - $180/night. It has wireless, and includes a continental breakfast. Very nice, and the innkeeper is very helpful and friendly! Very safe area--the police station is two doors down!

The Willard Intercontinental - 2 blocks from White House.
http://washington.intercontinental.com/

The bottom poster's hotel is also located a couple of blocks away - at least 5 blocks south and 3 blocks east. Logan Circle is upper 14th St. - nowhere near 17th and I.

The second poster's hotel is located too far away.

The first poster's hotel is on the other side of the White House and is further from 17th and I than the Willard.

Refer to this Mapquest Link for Hotels closest to 17th and I than anything else.
